My advice for your location and objective would be Black Rocks every time
They are hardier than the other hybrids but are economical to feed and lay
very well indeed with great long lasting shell quality.
They last longer than the red commercial hybrids who should be culled at 2
years as they are not vigourous in health and the shell quality declines
rapidly in future years resulting in most dying of peritonitis
Most pure breeds are comparatively poor layers - around about 100 eggs
through the year.
A few strains which have had the productivity maintained in the breeding may
give you nearer the 200- 220 through the year
Black Rocks should give you 250 - 280 plus depending on the light and the
weather at the back end of the year
The other advantage of Black Rocks is they have wonderful characters
