Pat: Get real, please!

It is still unclear how the virus was transported from the egg farm to
the
Banhams chicken farm, where it killed some 400 chickens and triggered a
drop
in egg production by other birds

One easy way could be a feed lorry - for instance
The birds in the free range unit will have a stronger immune system and the
symptoms be less pronounced.
Its a pretty mild infection as it is in its current state.
So the chances are the free range unit may well have been blaming a small
percentage drop in egg numbers to any number of things - duff batch of
birds, change in feed, ages of birds - a mild bacterial infection -- yadda
yadday yadda - there are ALL sorts of possibles
HOWEVER - take the same virus into an enclosed unit and into birds which
have not had the environmental immunological challenges and the effect is
more profound. Still weak as we have seen in its Low pathogenic form but
much more easily observed and recorded. This is also a breeder unit - its
the sort of place where more records are taken to compare yields etc as its
part of the creation of the next generation.

400 chickens out of 35,000. Stick it in your calculator. Just
assuming a drop in egg numbers in one day of some 30 dozen eggs or so
is not call for screaming about some G.D. Flu Pandemic.

I do not know what you are so angry about
The birds tested positive for low pathogenic avian influenza. In its present
state its a mild infection but it has been seen elsewhere - and British
Columbia is a serious case in point - that H7N3 is not a virus you want to
leave untrammelled - it can and has become high pathogenic in the matter of
weeks.
A high pathogenic AI virus in that location would be devastating to the
poultry industry, a serious worry to the pig industry in the same area and
would destroy the local economy
You seem only interested in human flu pandemic criteria -- this is not a
human health issue [except to the workers dealing directly with the
infection] This is an animal health situation.

Some idiots taking care of the chickens could have caused such an egg
drop.....on purpose.

You have some strange ideas - where on earth does that idea come from?

You do have some real idiots in your veterinary services ...they seem
not to have the ability to recognize that animals are not
machines.....or preprogrammed, micro-chipped individuals expected to
perform as robots....to satisfy some stupid number evaluator who says,
"Whoa."

The report indicates that we have very good vets - they are working very
hard to test thousands of samples to work out the process and progress of
this virus
What the relevance of your statement above is I cannot see,
