Some janet and john figures for biofuel

Apparently Shell reckons that 1% of the worlds transport fuels were derived
from plants (ignoring the fact that if you go back long enough, pretty well
all of them were).
Apparently the USDA reckons that 40 million tons of grains and seeds were
used by the biofuel industry.
Hence if the figure of 10% of transport fuels coming from biofuels, touted
by some governments is to happen, this is 400 million tons, or about 20% of
current world production.
In the next couple of years we could see serious upward moves in the price
of grain
Another throw away figure I came across is that one acre of OSR produces
about a ton of excellent cattle feed and 150 gallons of oil.
These are very much off the cuff figures I've seen quoted, they might be 50%
out, but I think they give the magnitude of the issue
