the change at the same time. This gives me time for a little research.
As a starter, for 10 points, what do people think of BT as an ISP? I
am aware that there are probably better ISPs but I hear very little
(for or against) BT and therefore likely to be good middle ground for
comparison purposes.

They drove me bonkers.
Basically you have to do everything on the web via yahoo.
primitive american rubbish for morons only.

Anybody tried Cymru1.net?

So far, so good. I went there 'cos the owner lives a couple of miles
away:*) I reckoned there was nothing to beat the personal touch when
things go wrong.

There's the personal touch with Zetnet (no longer Shetland based, now
Manchester) also.

One of the director bods, who lives in Manchester area, posts in the
closed .local, .help and .support newsgroups. His parents bought their
holiday home in Aberdaron and he's there most weekends. Recently there
were some server problems following equipment change and I sent him a
text message via mobile phone on the Saturday.

Reply "Dw i'n dysgu ym Mhorthmadog ar hyn o bryd will sort it asap
when finished" and he did.

That's service.

Going by comments in various newsgroups it looks as though the "free"
ISPs are gradually dropping newsgroup access as upstream providers are
starting to charge. Also ISPs are starting to drop or restrict binary
groups.
