My insurance is up for renewal and that concentrates the mind!

Is there a solution to this problem short of taking out insurance for
"commercial use"? I am very reluctant to do this because (a) I am
retired, and (b) the LR is never used for commercial use anyway. I
just need to know I can hire a vehicle which will tow a trailer when
I need to!

Any ideas? I did post a similar query when my previous LR was off the
road and I don't think anyone suggested an effective solution then. I
really cannot see why it is a problem, but the insurance companies
obviously can! It would help if I at least knew why! (I suppose I
could always buy a second Land Rover...Now there's a thought!<g>).

The insurance companies seem intent on subdividing the market, and
splitting hairs as well. They now distinguish between insurance for
going to the shops and insurance for commuting.

I think you'd have to talk with somebody in the business. It occurs to
me that you could change your cover to commercial, hire the vehicle
you need, and after you'd finished you could change the cover back.

Trouble is, that would probably be considered deception by some.

Deception, where insurance companies are concerned, doesn't sound like
an awfully good idea. A bit like using red diesel. You have to be so
infuriatingly nice to everyone in case someone takes offence and turns
you in.

Would it be any good approaching NFU Mutual? When my son came of age,
they were the only ones I found that would consider insuring him!!
