Cherry the dexter produced two dead calves yesterday morning, small but

two dead calves represents 100 per cent mortality for us, and it doesn't
really feel like we've learnt a lot from the experience.
Still, new calf acquired yesterday morning: foster mother and baby
seemingly doing very well. Turned out adequately in the end, but more
expensive and not what we were expecting. Still, that's small-holding
for you. :-|
One could say `That's life'.. Reminds me of a farmer whose cow had a
dead calf, as he got back to the road he spotted a calf dealer going
to mart, bought calf and had it suckling cow, then he wondered `Now,
wasn't that a coincidence!'.
