No poop from above and no contact through the sides
I have yet to confirm whether moveable houses and runs are allowed
So the netting thing: "Erecting a net structure/shade house and
ensuring that the netting used is of a suitable size to keep out
small birds; 25mm aperture is recommended" is slightly misleading in
that it wouldn't stop "poop from above"?
yes - except I suppose proper "shade" netting that we would get from
horticultural suppliers would, in theory, stop the poop. However it would be
washed through in the next shower
However, in theory, as they have written it they should have to stand by it
Do you have a polytunnel -- have you through about getting one?
The most likely time for a national lock down is the autumn when
most tunnel use is finished
A white covered tunnel with replacement all netting ends is ideal
Nope, and no plans (or funds!) to build one at the moment.
What birds do you have?
About 25 Light Sussex layers, plus 20 table birds and six or eight
goslings (all bought in). Of course we *could* keep them inside
something but since they're used to wandering more or less everywhere
the welfare implications wouldn't be nice...
deep bark , leaf litter, old rotting tree stumps, cabbages and brassicas
How about a porch to the houses - can you get them along a fence?
Fix some alkathene pip half hoops to the fence and into the ground
Fix a timber rail to the bottom and along the top of the fence
Wrap plastic around a light rail and staple
Fix to bottom and top with lots of tension
Staple plastic to hen house side
Make solid end for other end and staple plastic to that
OKay -- challenge to all you engineers and lateral thinkers
lets have lots of different variations on the shelters using cheap / free
materials
The aim being to create "car port" "bus Shelter" "raspberry cage"
"polytunnel" type creations
