Animal health minister Ben Bradshaw said confirmation the disease had
spread to more EU countries meant it was now more likely to reach our
shores.
blimey -- rocket science!
With four out of six affected EU countries confirming their outbreaks
of the disease are the deadliest H5N1 strain, they backed European
Commission calls for extra "buffer zones" around infection regions.
What evidence is there yet of an outbreak in these places - there are
certainly dead swans. Has anyone found any other birds infected? wild or
domestic?
.
Isolation measures already in place
Thats the most important thing -- deal with the situations effectively
But concern is growing about the difficulty of controlling the spread
of H5N1 if and when "domestic" birds - mainly commercial poultry on
farms - catch the virus.
Then maybe they should get off their proverbials and get in and help those
areas which are grossly infected who keep asking for help and not getting
it
Talk is cheap, money alone is useless, they need people - experienced
people, effective people [shut up Pat]
However, there is a risk that ducks and geese could come into contact
with an infected bird in frozen central Europe before heading to
Britain in search of food and water.
Dr Andre Farrar, of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds
said if the continental winter eases, then birds will not need to fly
west. If it continues, they could head to Britain.
now I can't wish for another continental high to give us dry weather for
the rest of the spring :~((
Have you got your chickens in yet?
