What to do with 3 Acres of land?

I have a small amount of land near my home in Scotland - about 3 acres.
For the last few years a local farmer has paid me a small, but useful,
amount to keep sheep/cattle on this land. He is retiring this year and
I was wondering what to do with the land now.

I would like to make some money from it, but am more interested in
keeping it in a reasonable state.

I have wondered if it is worth planting trees - can I get a subsidy for
this?

I don't really want to use it for horses, even though I believe this is
the best way to make money!

Any ideas?
