Curious, said Alice

I should first remind our adepts that I am using MS office 97 (word) with XP home system.

For some reason best known only unto BG my version of word has decided that I am no longer allowed to access files on the 3.5" drive. Apparently I do not have administrative authority. The drive itself seems OK and displayed some old J.pegs happily.

TTTBOMK there are no passwords installed on this machine so I do not see how it can draw this conclusion. Reverting to an earlier version and reloading the office software has not helped.

It is quite happy for me to save to a fresh disk and I can still pull up these files on the old machine.

The only other clue is that when examined in MS Explorer the disks are said to be unformatted.

Is an updated version of word available without the office package?
