Well the price of stores has come down; they are cheaper than they were.
Also they are also cheaper in autumn than they are in spring when everyone
has grass and wants them.
If you could pick up something pretty hardy, but not psychotic, kick them
out onto your rough grass now, by spring they should be bigger.
In theory the finishers want an animal that has the frame and will be fast
to finish, also by spring there could be the signs of a shortage of cattle.
Ideally you probably want something 12 month old, so that in May it is old
enough to have another summer on better grass, really grow on, and finish,
if necessary, inside next winter.
In theory you might even make a profit, but I think that at this point I'd
have to point out that Oz's signature is perfectly apt for this advice as
well. I confess I'd be tempted, if the stores were cheap enough and I had
the grass sitting there waiting to be eaten.
