I don't think it is a fixation, a dedication possibly.
You do have to remember that you were part of are a group that commented
much about the BSE crisis and queried its links to human health. Later you
published advice to farmers during the last great animal epidemic (Foot and
Mouth.)
You were all, at the time, publicly congratulating yourselves on the
influence you had enjoyed and the favourable comments on your efforts in the
trade press. You had rows with national journalists and one even wrote to
his editor complaining
Since then little by little, we discover that some have posts in bodies with
financial interests in the cull and others were paid lobbyists.
You have got yourselves into disinformation campaigns and there has been
organised libel. At times, people hid their identities, not very
successfully, to make multiple posts here. (..and no, I don't mean Pete...)
A long time ago, I was kind enough to warn you that your activities had
attracted considerable interest abroad, and that it would be wise to
exercise a little caution. Inadvertently, because that was not their
purpose, I became aware of the amount of family information the politburo
were splaying about the net at the same time as going out of their way to
antagonise animal rights.
All I got was a fresh stream of abuse. At the time, I can remember
commenting words to the effect that the person sending me the information
was "showing their expertise." I thought it was an amateur. I now know I was
almost certainly wrong.
The penny finally dropped when the "Old Codger" made a comment along the
lines of "How do we know you are the real Pat Gardiner?"
I took his point, then realised that I had been very carefully checked out
by professionals to make sure that the man posting here was the same one who
was the former Felixstowe shipbroker. Obviously it was, I had no problem.
Then I realised that my earlier informant was linked to others, obviously
professionals, in overseas government employ. You all missed the obvious.
Livestock farming is not so important here, it is vital abroad. They don't
miss things as important as this.
To some extent, I take heart. No only are responsible overseas agencies
aware of the fiascos developing here, but have even shifted from silent
observation to occasionally offering some small support in what has been a
long and exhausting battle to get Britain back on the track of sensible,
safe and ethical animal health.
I could go on. I won't.
If you do have relatives in veterinary service, behave well in their
interests. We are all, alas, judged by the company we keep, and the
behaviour of our relations.
