I have made a yearly loss on my room rentals, so no tax to be paid.
Can the loss be carried over to the next year?
If you're using the rent-a-room scheme, then I don't think so.
Otherwise yes.
Thanks for your advice. No, I am not using the rent-a-room scheme.
In this case, I will expect to see my accountants carry over my losses
in my return next year.
You should start a website of all the questions you reply to - you'd
get a lot of visitors! :)
Yes he should because he is great.
And loss relief is a particularly difficult thing to look up on the
internet. The general rule is:
You can carry losses forward indefinitely. Or IIRC backward for 3
years in the same trade - for you I think that means the same
property.
But you can carry losses sidewise in companies and set them against
capital losses, and between groups of companies, and that is a Lucerne-
black hole in the internet.
Hull are almost up for the first time ever and Accountancy seems to be
the only thing you *can't* DIY on the internet so I challenge Peter to
buy us all a drink in the White Lion of Mortimer if they make it.
I'd be happy to!-
When can we arrange the drink? I do hope you mean the Mitcham pub!
You are alright. Yes, I was in the White Lion of Mortimer last week,
escaping from the tedium of Park Place. We'd only talk about tax or
something boring and who needs that.
At least we now know that an over-weight "has-been" can be a proper
hero - Windass will be given the freedom of Hull presumably...followed
by the news that he is "surplus to requirements"?
Have a moaning practise for nexrt year:
1) Ferguson has the referees in his pocket,
2) Abramovitch shouldn't ne allowed to get away with it
...and the Derby chant on the last day of this season...
"You're going down with us! You're going down with us!
"You're going down
"You're going down with us!...
:)
