Re: Use of home as office - allowable expense?

Section 336 ITEPA 2003
No deduction is due for the cost of business calls if the terms on
which the telephone is rented require the payment of a fixed sum to
cover both line rental and calls. In such a case there is no cost that
is wholly and exclusively attributable to the cost of a business call.

I find this bit interesting - AIUI, it applies to a telephone
line set up mainly for personal calls, which then has some
business calls made on it. However, a telephone line set
up just for the business *can* have a deduction for the
line rental (as well as the business calls). Isn't that true?
[Eg imagine someone with two lines,
one for personal and one for business.]

But, applying your quote above "in reverse", then any
personal calls made on the "business line" won't affect the
tax relief (because the personal calls are, in fact, "free") ...

So why not just set up a single telephone line for the business, with a
package including free calls (which you also use for personal calls!) ?
