as a rough cost and obviously this doesnt apply to you , but I
implemented a backup solution for a client using IBM Server with a
TS3310 Tape Library and Tivoli Storage Manager - all came to a grand
cost of 150K
then again this was backing up to 5 TB data daily (SQL, AD Profiles,
Data etc)

I am also looking for a backup facility for approx 3 TByte plus of
hard drive data on my home video and data server. DLT or LTO Tape has
been suggested but I've no idea what is suitable for me at an
affordable price for home use. Again suggestions & offers welcomed.
Thanks
Del
One of the cheaper options might be to construct a NAS server using
FreeNAS, chuck in three terabyte disks (about 200 quid at today's
prices) and stick it on your home network. Not sure that this is a
particularly fast backup solution but it's not very expensive and should
be fairly reliable once set up. FreeNAS is also very configurable and
provides lots of services.

Thanks for the suggestion Leo.
I think I didnt explain myself sufficiently.
I am building a 3 terrabyte Opensolaris ZFS raid 5 home server and
wanted some long term backup system as a Fail Safe option incase of
disaster (fire flood etc). That was why I was looking at the
possibility of tape to store elsewhere.
