So what excactly was your motivation for publicly pissing on Steve's genuine advert made in good faith and trying to drive off any interest anyone may have in his laptop?

If you had this opinion/advice to give why didn't you email him directly? Or was your intent more to try and appear clever yourself when ultimately you are coming across as a bit of a smug knowitall busybody wanker.

That's what I wanted to post Neil so thankyou for doing the dirty. :-)

Too much of that kind of thing goes on in this group unfortunately. People with no interest in buying or selling jumping on adverts based on their own inaccurate perceptions

Hands up *any* poster who would have been put off buying because of onweb's comments? Or any similar ones?

By stating, in the context of a nearly new item with full transferable manufacturer's warranty, "I would go with buying new from the retailer every time, no matter what the product was", I do wonder what on Earth he is bothering to subscribe to this group, but that is a different matter.

There are no facts included, like what tangible benefit you get from buying from a retailer. Which, IME, is less than SFA, when buying a one-off. If you are a big account customer, that's different. But, for a one-off laptop purchase, all you are going to get is a pointer to the door and the manufacturer's warranty. OK, there is the SOGA - if you fancy a 6 month argument ending up in a small claims court, all without the laptop you paid for. I've had much better service from buying off this and other groups than I have ever had from a retailer*. YMMV

*Other than when I was a big account customer. When *anything* suddenly became possible.

Much more useful comments would be from regulars who had bought things from the OP in the past and could chip in and confirm what a really good egg he is.

Or, if the OP has an ebay account with lots of good fb, he would quote that (or offer to send it by email - if not wanting it to be public knowledge).

Without such things, I would suggest that many would be reluctant to do other than arrange payment on pickup - unless they have traded with the OP before. Which could rather restrict sales to the Wellington area. I'm not sure how many readers of this group come from there, so, in this case, Ebay may be better.

So, when you write, "Too much of this goes on", Niel, I would agree. Personal opinions with no facts are a waste of space.

However, I do think that some sellers need to think as a buyer and word their post accordingly. Whilst I would buy from you, and many others here, without a worry, not everyone knows you, or them, as well as I do ;).
