Indeed, but not for the Canon or any "branded"make. It really depends
what you are after and which features/performance is important to you
as there is a vast array of digital cameras and some apparently good
deals turn out to be lemons when you look at the spec/reviews. Its not
just lens/picture quality either, but perhaps ease of use, features,
the cycle time between power up first shot, or the latency between
pressing the button and actually taking the picture (one I was looking
at was a ridiculous 1.6 seconds), or the time lag between taking one
shot and being able to take another etc etc.
Certainly not something to rush into. Perhaps it would be best to go
round all the outlets (including Tesco Extra which has quite a
selection) making a list and then checking them out in detail on the
net from home. Many of the reviews are from people who have purchased
what appeared to be an excellent cheap camera only to find they were
looking to change it after a couple of months.
BTW this is rec.photo.digital would be a more appropriate place to ask
this question and where you are likely to get more informed replies.
Best wishes, Steve
