Looking for an Airport card, with software if necessary, that fits a
Power Book G3 (with FireWire) running OS8.6

Is that the version with a PCMCIA slot?

I believe it is

If so, then we have had success here with a Wireless card in the slot,
Pismo and Lombard afair, though maybe they were before FW?

The reason I specified firewire was because the Apple website said that
only the G3 versions with FireWire were capable of handling Airport. I
assume there is no actual connection between FireWire and Airport, it
was just a convenient way of identifying the model.

Another respondent has now kindly contacted me to offer a card which was
in his Pismo, so he obviously had some success with it too.

Well, the card I'm talking about is just the standard 802.11b Airport
card (me being the Another Respondent in question). Can you get PCMCIA
cards that will handle 802.11g (or better??)? If so, they might be
preferable.

As you had contacted me privately, I thought it best to respect your
privacy until you chose to reveal your identity.

For my own use, my router will handle both the 'b' and 'g' systems; but
I may soon have to link into another network and I don't know how that
has been set up. Whilst a more modern card would avoid any
incompatibilty problems, the software may not be suitable for a G3 and
OS8.6.

If I use Tim's card, I shall know it ought to work on my machine - but I
am now aware that a few settings may need changing on the 'host' router
to let me into the network.
