Hi all,
Me again. Something else for valuation or/and for offer:
My _beloved_ Graphite iBook 466 SE (clamshell), 320mb, 10GB, DVD.
Includes original box, ethernet lead thing, A/V lead and supposedly
original OS9 system discs (basically cdrs with an "official"
Apple/Cancom sticker on them :-/).
I also have a nicely padded (matching colours!) clamshell-shaped
carry-bag for it too.
The iBook has been well used but is still working excellently and has
been my main computer for 3yrs+ now.
The screen is good with no dead pixels and the backlight is bright. The
battery holds about an hour of charge.
The outer Case is in good overall condition with a few of the usual
scuffs on the rubber but no deep scratches.
The iBook does have some mentionable "quirks":
1. Will occasionally (ie: once a in a blue moon) boot up into a sort of
offset 640x480 looking screen. Putting it to sleep then waking it up
gets rid of this immediately. It's been like this since i've had it and
never bothered me.
2. The little plastic tab holding middle of DVD bezel on has broken. Dvd
bezel is still attached by the other two tabs & screws and works fine
(eject button works etc) but it doesn't sit perfectly flush anymore.
Still pretty damn flush though.
3. For some reason, unbeknown to me (I think it new I was thinking of
selling it) the rubber round the modem/ethernet/usb/firewire ports and
on the bottom of the laptop has started to peel off. I'd have thought it
could easily be stuck back down but i'll leave that decision up to the
final buyer.
4. There's a stress mark/hairline crack spidering away from the small
Apple logo underneath the screen. The main one is running downwards from
the bottom of the logo nearly to the bottom of the case but there's also
a tiny (half cm) one near the top of the "apple leaf". The 'book has
never been dropped or handled roughly so I am unsure as to why this
should happen. Maybe it was always there and I have just never looked
closely enough before?
5. Previous owner seems to have rounded off the head one of the screws
under the keyboard: Mentioned because the HD occasionally whirs louder
than it should. It's not constant, performance is not affected and it's
no where near as noisy as some i've used _plus_ the HD's s.m.a.r.t
status checks out.
6. Yoyo power adapter is faulty- it works but only if you get the wire
in a certain position. The yoyo mains lead has disappeared. I've been
using the iBook with a Powerbook G3 mains adapter but I need to keep
that for my Powerbook G3 :)
Imho, i've been brutally honest with the condition and I think whoever
buys it will be more than happy. Even though it seems to have a lot of
faults it's still a very smart looking computer and is still going
strong.
Sadly i'm looking to sell it as i now need something with a higher res
screen and a little more grunt. I've found the iBook to be ideal for web
browsing, email, word processing etc. It's got bloody amazing wireless
reception too.
It's currently set up with an Airport card (boxed, with
discs/instructions) and 10.3 (again, boxed with instructions). Both of
these are available but I don't want to get rid of the Airport until I
have got rid of the iBook!
I know vaguely what i'd like for everything as I've had browse on eBay
etc. It will go on eBay hopefully mid-next week but if I get a good
offer from someone on here then it, err, wont.
I'd also prefer it went to someone on here- not least because you're all
thoroughly nice people *coughs* and it'll save me the hassle of eBaying
and possible scams etc...*coughs* ;)
Pics can be provided. Please just ask and i'll try and get some taken.
Any questions/offers/valutaions greatfully received.
If you're in the County Durham area it's possible I can arrange a time
for you to come look at it and pick it up.
Cheers,
Tom.
