Doesn't initially sound, for some reason, Buddhist - at least with the

I suppose I was thinking that Buddhism is away from the material world.

Bill Pfeifer gave the links to Shambhala Sun and Tricycle. I thumb through
them at the library looking for the occasional interesting article, but
they a literally glossy and filled with ads for Buddhist Consumer Goods and
seminars. It makes me realize that I'm on some other planet.

I'll admit to being a book junkie, but I realize that the books aren't
getting the job done; even less so fancy meditation furniture, timers,
gongs, and other stuff. I'll even admit to buying a genuine zafu from a
local shop this summer, after a lifetime of sitting on rolled up sleeping
bags, rocks, hillsides sloped at the right angle, and so forth, but that is
about it.

Thoreau said something about mistrusting any endeavor that requires buying a
new wardrobe and I'm that way about a lot of things.

I don't think those magazines are for us. But I'm always of the
unpopular opinion that a little dhamma is better than none. So maybe
there are a bunch of yuppies sitting out there right now with a nice
zafu and zabuton and altar and incense and a robe and a fancy
meditation timer.... But if they are sitting I think that's cool.

In traditional buddhist terms maybe this means that the next life they
will be born outside the yuppie class and get down to practicing for
real the next time. lol
