Fun withi FreeMind Software and the Pali CannonYou mean you were talking without it in your head so far?
http://i6.tinypic.com/1znpkb6.jpg
Just getting started. It's kind of fun. Imagine having this in your
head and then trying to verbalize it to people, and you get an idea of
why the Buddha talked so much.
over accesstoinsight.com. I had the 7 this and the 4 that and the 5
that and it was really cool looking and big, and then I had some
problems with the software, and now I lost the damn thing. haha.
Irony. It was really cool too.
Oh well at least I got to look at it for awhile.
There it is. Clickable even! I think it's purty.
and try mindmapping the heart sutra.
You're into programming and operating systems and such, aren't you?
I'm going somewhere with this question, it's not like one of yours. :)
I like to see how you represent paradoxes.
you ignored mine completely. Am I asking too much here?
I use to dabble in programming but not anymore
and I tinker with many Linux distros.
I am currently playing with terminal servers.
I am interested in knowledge representation
so long as it does not involve any math
or complex logical operations.
program and was awed by it's beauty and grace and inner logic. Oddly
some of the most graceful and beautiful programming is in some of the
viruses people make (which is a shame).
So I am seeing much of the Buddha's teachings in the same way here.
There's really not a lot of paradox or contradiction in his original
teachings. So that's what I saw when I created this silly map. Try to
see it that way if you can.
There's no math but there are a lot of numbers...
I'm going to update it with links to some of the Sutras the stuff came
from.
why did he say we need to figure out
what is good for our awakening ourselves?
What's more straightforward than that?
You are admiring the wake patterns of his boat
instead of rowing your own to the other shore.
Yes, I do admire them greatly. I think they are ingenious, clever, and
consistent. The Buddha was a clear thinker and very intelligent.
I don't think that means I can't row myself in the same direction.
Keep in mind that most of my study of Theravada right now is academic
and that my practice is mostly Zen. I've just been immersed in the
Pali texts and have been trying to sort it out. I can still do that and
practice Zen, you know.
Also note that I didn't post or cross-post this to alt.zen. This is a
forum for discussing the Buddha's teachings. If you want to talk
paradox or koans or whatever, meet me over there, but I won't be
drawing any mind maps. :)
Why not?
I googled "representation of paradox"
and got this:
http://www.geoffreyfalk.com/books/sosarticle.asp
Let me know if you actually read it
and understand it, please.
