I have a problem: I'm easily discouraged. When
someone holds views that are vastly different from
what I THINK are reasonable or fair, I don't try
to argue with or persuade him. I figure this party
and I are destined never to agree. Lee is really
good at taking on the hard cases I wouldn't even
lift a finger to try to convince.
About 30% of Americans still approve of Bush. My
current practice is not to think about them, to let my
consciousness note this and move on. I can't
imagine dissolving my dual me-them conscious-
ness of this remarkable disagreement. But I can
drop the disagreement. This is not the same as
giving in or acquiescing to them: it's just accepting
an unpleasant aspect of my life and withdrawing
my consciousness from the subject. When election
time comes I'll vote and support candidates that talk
sense to me (I hope there will be some!) and drop
the issue otherwise. I was really interested in the
answers to my question about non-dual conscious-
ness. It sounds to me very difficult to achieve. But
then I can't imagine playing the violin--but many
folks can and very well too. So some of you folks
may be able to dissolve your subject-object dual-
ism at will.

George, I don't know if anyone is capable of that sort of thing all of the
time. All religions have useful mythologies..... saints who are greater
than human, people who are more wise and more enlightened than others.....
but is enlightened attitude achievable even some of the time? Is it worthy
of holding this sort of thought as a goal? I think yes, on both counts.
