Congratulations.

Thanks, Jonathan. I've got a long way to go. In
the supermarket today, we limited ourselves to
buying only food you MIGHT find in some woods
somewhere. Maybe the main audience for this
book will be deer and moose. Seriously, I'm
going to find out what they eat and see whether
it's safe for human beings to eat these plants.

In terms of what deer and moose eat, various items are more likely to be
safe than they are to be of any use in that I'm assuming that (I forget the
proper terminology) they have four stomachs (?) and chew the cud (?) so that
they can break down what we can't - cellulose (?) Most of what I would
assume they would eat e.g. grass and bark would have negligible nutritional
value in the amounts a human could eat them even if we could break them down
and digest them. E.g. even with something like apples - you'd have to eat
something like 35 a day just to get enough calories.

Remember that true story about the soccer team
that crashed in some South American mountains.
They survived for months until they were found--by
eating their deceased companions. I have no
problem with eating meat from an animal (or human
being) who wasn't killed for me. : o )

!!

George (grasshoppers, yummmmmm)

One time, my uncle asked whether I ate whitebait and I said I preferred not
to because it entailed "too many deaths per mouthful." We get this dire
program - "I'm A Celebrity - Get Me Out Of Here" - where they maroon a load
of celebrities in the Australin jungle and give them all sorts of challenges
including eating all manner of crawling entities.
