1100...The only essential
vitamin or mineral found only in meat (not in plant foods)
is vitamin B-12. The human body can store B-12 for
many years. So if you eat meat about once every year,
you're all set with respect to what you need from meat.
There seems to be a recommended daily allowance of about 3 mcg (maybe
mcg per year). How much weight of meat do you need to eat to get
'delicacy'.
I get 25 mcg (about 417% DV) of B-12 everyday in my
Centrum Silver daily multivitamin. It's synthetic vitamin
B-12. The synthetic form of B-12 is better absorbed than
the natural form in meat.
OK. I found it's also in the yeast extract Marmite - a British
I've used Marmite. I think it tastes something
like Miso.
Yes (although I can't remember what's in Miso - seaweed? - my sister gave me
some sachets last time I saw her). Marmite is yeast extract. I think Joy
said it tastes like ear wax, but it's rammed full of B vitamins e.g. a 4g
serving contains, in terms of RDA, 17%, 18%, 36%, 50% and 60% respectively
of Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Folic Acid and B12.
....My Paleolithic ancestors stuffed themselves
when they had a chance. That made sense for them since
they couldn't just go to the fridge for the next meal. For us,
it's a bad idea.
Erm... :)
The data is very telling, indeed conclusive. Calorie Restriction
extends life. There are several theories why CR extends
life. They may all be true. MIT is one of the places where this
research is producing significant results.
OK. I suppose I was just quibbling with the proposition that I couldn't
'stuff myself'. I've lost about 13lb in the last 6 months. Today, I could
have had about 2500 calories if I had been sedentary but I had to deliver
newspapers in the snow for about 5 hours, which entitles me to at least 1000
more. The way it worked out, I had three meals instead of the normal two but
I could still have 'stuffed myself' if I'd had two.
...I personally don't
want a long life: I want a healthy, happy life. I've been happier
lately, reading "Lucky Jim". I feel less lonely reading this novel.
I'm beginning to like the protagonist. When are you going to
tell me your all-time favorite novel?
Soon :)
Jonathan
