Baha'i Pyramid Schemes in Iran
I previously mentioned the pyramid schemes the ad hoc Baha'i
administration has been running (and enriching itself thereby) in Iran,
and here is what my contacts in Iran have told me. First, note that
these pyramid schemes were primarily operated by 'front' companies
run by the same missionaries who were recently expelled.
Back in 1999 the missionaries nominated two key individuals from the
Iranian Baha'i administration (the Ma'arif) as partners in a number of
'front' companies. One of these individuals (A) was an active
Baha'i within the grand Tehran administrative boundaries and the
other (B) was a link between Tehran and Isfahan, and a
pseudo-NSA/Ma'arif member. Both individuals had contacts with the
Iranian and Arab Bahai Affairs committee in London. It is unclear
whether the two were hand picked by the London committee or were
selected by the missionaries. Both individuals hosted the missionaries
at their residence whenever they were in Iran.
The day to day running of the 'front' companies was assigned to A
and B. They were primarily concerned with identification of potential
silent partners for procurement of land in Mazandaran and near the
Azarbaijan border. On the side they sat on the 3-to 5-member self
styled Tehrani and Iranian Bahai assemblies. They appointed their close
family and friends to employment positions in the 'front'
companies. Many deserving, average Iranian Baha'is lost out on
employment opportunities to these greedy individuals and their families
(who were actually quite well off in any case). This is about the time
when the first batch of letters of complaint were sent to Haifa by
Iranian Baha'is regarding rampant drug use and sexual immorality
amongst Baha'i youth in Iran.
A and B promoted a "get quick rich" scheme whereby individuals had to
invest in a pyramid scheme in order to attract interest rates of up to
45% on their mony. Eerily, this reminds one of the same Naw-Nahalan and
Sherakat-i-Umana schemes the Baha'i administration was screwing
average, joe Baha'is with in the 1960s and 1970s. The pyramid schemes
were promoted as part of their day to day AO functions and travels to
various regions, i.e. after prayer assemblies, 19 days feasts and other
special gatherings of Baha'is throughout Iran. Many of those investing
were average, mom and pop type Baha'is with limited financial means.
Many unsuspecting (particularly elderly) Baha'is trusted A and B with
their lifes' savings. The scheme actually went on between 6 to 8 months
each time. However none of the investors were paid any actual money.
The first lot of dividends were to be paid out in the fall of 1999,
when A and B applied for bankruptcy and disappeared. Another round of
complaint letters were dispatched to Haifa by disgruntled investors. As
usual, the uhj did nothing and responded with its typical "blame the
victim" obfuscatory responses.
The 'front' companies also folded at this time and the missionaries
were approached by investors about their involvement in the pyramid
schemes. They denied knowledge of the events. This prompted a number of
outraged Baha'is to go to the Information Ministry. Missionaries set
up a number of other companies that appear to have 'bought out' the
bankcrupt companies without taking on the debts. These companies were
then flooded with funds from overseas (via London) in the form of hard
currency, and basically traded in the black market selling Euros and US
dollars. A and B continue to be active in the Grand Tehran Bahai
administration. They were briefly held July last year in connection
with the arrest of the missionaries and were released on bond.
It seems the Baha'i administration is up to its old tricks again in
Iran. Unfortunately for them, there also happen to be plenty of
disgruntled, pissed-off mom and pop Baha'is in Iran waiting for the
chance to air the ITC/uhj's dirty laundry far and wide. In the mean
time, I will help the process along, thanks to my invaluable contacts
over there. But God help the Baha'i administration on the day the
mullahs go. On that day, with all excuses gone, an upheavel inside the
Iranian Baha'i community will occur which will, insha'Llah, forever cut
the uhj and its wealthy, corrupt Pahlavi-era cronies to size.
