The woman should get nothing more than a heavy fine and counseling.
Putting her in a cage after simple consentual sex for her life is
typical Puritan, nutty America. What's the world coming to?

A 10-year-old lie about who fathered her child resulted in a 10-year prison
sentence for rape today for Twyana Davis.

Davis, now 30, pleaded guilty this year to a sexual relationship with a 12-
year-old cousin in 1995 that resulted in the birth of her daughter.

For years, Davis said she was raped at a party. She wrote a book about her
experiences with an unwanted pregnancy and started a foundation to help
expectant mothers deal with child bearing.

But when her daughter was born, in November 1995, she tossed it in a trash
bin at Ohio Dominican College The baby survived, and Davis, convicted of
child endangering, was granted probation in Franklin County Common Pleas
Court. She later regained custody of the child she named Danielle.

Today, a different judge said Davis has "manipulated the system" to her
advantage while engaging in illegal sex with a minor. Common Pleas Judge
Michael A. Holbrook labeled her a sexual predator and sent her to prison
for 10 years.

"Throughout this matter, there have been a series of manipulations. I have
to look at protecting society," Holbrook said. Upon her release, Davis must
notify authorities of her home address for the rest of her life.

Defense attorney Byron Potts said Davis voluntarily admitted to the
relationship to clear her conscious and that the sex, although illegal, was
consensual.

The law has since changed, and rape of a minor younger than 13 now carries
a life prison term.

I don't mean to be callous about the young man, but it seems weird to
me that she gets 10 years in prison for having sex with a
post-pubescent but only probation for throwing a helpless human being
in the garbage. And then got the baby back.
