Even redirecting an asteroid into the Earth's path won't quite do it -- it
would take a very large heap of them over a long time interval to offset
the Earth's total momentum of about 1.793 * 10^29 kg-m/s (Earth mass of
5.976 * 10^24 kg times Earth speed of about 30 km/s). An asteroid of
pure iron about 1 cubic kilometer in volume would have a mass of about
7.874 * 10^12 kg, and would probably crash into the Earth with a speed of
at least 12 km/s, for various reasons relating to orbit -- that's a
momentum of about 9.449 * 10^16 kg-m/s. A retrograde asteroid could hit
us with 6 times that speed, though such are rather rare, and the asteroids
crashing into the Earth would have to be retrograde to slow it down.

If you just wanted to slow the Earth down it'd be more effective to do
a slingshot around the Earth. Rather than have a planetoid crash into
the Earth you'd get more effect by having it do a close pass by and
change it's direction 180 degrees (or so).

Not as ... splashy, but more effective in changing the Earth's
velocity. Or course, finding such a chunk in space and altering its
trajectory would be quite a challenge. You might have better effect
slowing the moon enough to crash into the Earth.
