Re: "Wishes of Tibetan" from inside Tibet

Regarding hopes from a Tibetan, my five cents:

1. I think some Tibetan may not want a common language Tibetan (According to
the original poster 14% of Tibetan do not want Lhasa dialect to be
designated the common language.) I hear that some "Tibetans" even do not
want to be recognized as Tibetan, especially some outside the Autonomous
region, they have been brutally invaded by Tibetan in the past. Some Tibetan
area do not believe in Buddhism. I think it is good to have a common
language within the Autonomous region but I wonder it may spark another
internal fight among the Tibetans.

2. I agree that the state shall recognize degrees granted by Tibetan
monasteries. Tibetan monastery education has a long history and excellent
record as an educational system. It is always good to have different types
of universities. As many outstanding Tibetan scholars are graduates of the
monastery schools, they should be recognized with degrees from modern
education system. They shoud be offered jobs in schools set up by the public
or in state work units. The Dorampa degree should be equivalent to the
bachelor's degree, the Tsogrampa degree should be considered equivalent to
the master's degree and the Lhamrampa Degree equivalent to the PhD. More
resource should be allocated to modernize those monasteries.

3. All the Tibetan areas should be included into modern educational system.
Mother languages should be used in elementary schools, so students can
understand the coursework. For example, if a teacher explains to students in
Tibetan that one plus one equals two, all the students understand. However,
if the teacher explains in Mandarin that one plus one equals two, then the
students don't understand what the teacher is saying. These should be the
same as in other areas of the world, but when they grow up and got enough
ability in official languages, they shall use those languages in
universities so that they can communicate with people from other areas.

4. Tibetan music, traditional arts and history shall become part of the
music, fine arts and history course from elementary school to university in
all provinces and autonomous regions.

The following blog post is published on the blog of a Tibetan living
in China. The article suggests educational and cultural policies,
including raising the status of the Tibetan language, that the Chinese
