279 suspects arrested in twin cities

ISLAMABAD: Some 279 suspects were arrested from Rawalpindi and
Islamabad during search operations in the wake of terrorist activities
in Lahore recently.

The Islamabad police Sunday arrested 104 suspects during the search
operation in different areas of the federal capital.

According to the spokesman for police, the search operation was
conducted in slum areas of the city and 50 houses were searched.

He said the operation was being conducted on the directions of DIG
Operations Bani Ameen and Islamabad SSP Tahir Alam Khan.

He said the officials of Bomb Disposal Squad, police commandoes,
Eagles Falcon, Reserve Police and inhabitants of the area participated
in the operation.

He said sniffer dogs were also used in the operation to detect any
explosive material. During the operation, Tarnol police apprehended 15
suspects from Sarai Kharboza and Jhangi Saydan areas.

The Golra Police arrested 15 suspects from Dhoke Kashmirian and
Shahzad Town police arrested 13 suspects from slums situated along
Islamabad Highway. Similarly, the Secretariat Police arrested 10
suspects from Pari area.

The spokesman said Sihala police apprehended 13 suspects from Japan
Road, Azeem Town and other areas near Police Training College Sihala.

Kohsar Police arrested 12, Shalimar police five and Aabpara Police
eight suspects.

Similarly, Margalla Police took into custody six suspects from
Peshawar Mor area and Bhara Kahu police arrested four suspects from
Phulgran area, while Nilor and Industrial area police each arrested
suspects from the limits of their jurisdictions.

The SSP has directed the SPs, DSPs and SHOs to accelerate patrolling
in their respective areas. He appealed to the citizens to cooperate
with police particularly in this critical time when terrorists were
targeting innocent people and law-enforcement agencies buildings.

He has asked the citizens to inform the police if they observed any
suspicious activity or such a luggage laying anywhere.

Meanwhile, Rawalpindi police continued the search operation for the
second day in the limits of Pirwadhai police station on Sunday and
arrested 175 suspected people.

According to SSP Operations office, the operation was conducted in the
early morning in various areas of Pirwadhai and Fauji Colony.

As many as 90 suspected people were arrested in the search operation
in the same areas on Saturday. app
