Against A Sea of Troubles

Will America act to remove the weapons of mass destruction, and the
nuclear
weapons program in Persia, which since 1935 has been
so-called "Iran", which literally means LAND OF THE ARYANS, it
changed its name
from Persia in 1935 in its alliance with Hitler, and the weapons of
mass
destruction in Syria, some of which may now, or may soon be, in the
hands of
Hezbollah or of Hamas, whose headquarters are in Damascus, of will
America wait
until those weapons are used against Israel, against America,
against the rest
of the civilized world?

We urge you to contact President Bush now, and every single day,
until he does

We are aware of the terrible tragedy which such action contains. We
have great
fondness for the people of Persia. They are a proud and noble people
with a
history which they should be proud of for the most part.
Unfortunately a weak
President named Jimmy Carter let the lunatics take charge in Persia
and stay in
power. Today those lunatics and their allies in Damascus, and their
joint
puppets in Lebanon and elswhere are a direct threat to Israel and
America and
civilization in general.

A far greater tragedy would result from inaction on the part of
President Bush.
Unless dramatic action is taken by President Bush now it may be too
late to head
off an imminent WMD attack on Israel and America and the rest of the
civilized
world by Persia, a.k.a. "Iran", and its Syrian allies and assorted
terrorist
puppets.

Iran launches large land, air and sea military exercise

TEHRAN, Iran - Iran on Saturday launched a series of large-scale
military
exercises aimed at introducing the country's new defensive doctrine,
state-run
television reported.

The television report said the military exercise would occur in 14
of the
country's 30 provinces and could last as long as five weeks.

The first stage of the maneuvers began with air strikes in the
southeastern
province of Sistan va Baluchistan, the report said.

The military exercises come as Iran faces heightened international
scrutiny
because of its contentious nuclear program and for supporting the
guerrilla
group Hezbollah in Lebanon....

The Islamic Republic, which views the United States as an arch foe,
also is
concerned about the U.S. military presence in neighboring Iraq and
Afghanistan
and Israel's threats to destroy its nuclear facilities.

The military exercise, involving 12 infantry regiments, is
called "The Blow
of Zolfaghar," in reference to a sword that belonged to Imam Ali,
one of the
most revered figures of Islam for Shiite Muslims. A majority of
Iran's 70
million people are Shiite....

Saddam Hussein,

15, 1990.***. The current leader of Iraq was born on April 28, 1937,
in a small village of al-Auja near the town of Takrit. His early
child
hood was spent in a mud hut in a mostly Sunni Muslim part of Iraq,
which is approximately (100) one-hundred miles north of Baghdad.
Hussein's father, Hussein al-Majid, died or abandoned the family
(according to who is reporting the story), within a short time of his
birth. Accurate records are difficult to obtain in a country where
Hussein's birthday is celebrated as a national holiday. He was reared
alone by his mother Subha, until she took a second husband, Ibrahim
Hassan. Hassan, often said to have been brutal and a thief, was a
sheepherder by profession and enlisted Saddam in his ventures.
According to a former personal secretary of Hussein, his step father
abused Saddam and sent him to steal chicken and sheep to be sold.
This
pattern continued until 1947 when, at the age of ten, he was allowed

In Baghdad, Hussein began to learn more
than reading and writing.
His tutor, Khayrallah had been
"cashiered" from the Iraqi army for
supporting a "Pro-Nazi" coup attempt

bitterness towards the British and
imperialism, soon was transferred
to Saddam. In fact, some confidants of
Hussein point to his
relationship with Tulfah
as a turning point in his political
awareness. To demonstrate Tulfah's
importance to Hussein, he was later
made Mayor of Baghdad under the
Hussein regime. Saddam finished
intermediate school (roughly the
equivalent of 9th Grade) at the age of
sixteen, and attempted to be
admitted to the prestigious Baghdad Military Academy. Unfortunately,
his poor grades prevented him from doing so, and he became more
deeply
involved in political matters. In 1956, he participated in a
non-successful coup attempt against the monarchy of King Faisal II.
In
1957, he joined the Baath party, a radical nationalist movement. In
1958, a non-Baathist group of army officers succeeded in overthrowing
the King. The group was led by General Abdul Qassim. In 1959, Saddam
and a group of Baathist supporters attempted to assassinate Gen.
Qassim by a day-light machine-gun attack. The attack was
unsuccessful,
but it helped to place Hussein in a leadership position in the
Baathist movement and furthered the process of nationalist political
indoctrination. After the attack, in which Hussein is slightly
wounded, he fled to Syria. From Syria, he went to Cairo, Egypt where
he would spend the next four (4) years. 2 [ Also in Cairo, In 1951, a
close relative of the Mufti named Rahman Abdul Rauf el-Qudwa
el-Husseini matriculated to the University of Cairo. The student
decided to conceal his true identity and enlisted as "Yasser Arafat."
3 ] Persecution was at its worst at the end of 1968. Scores were
jailed upon the discovery of a local "spy ring" composed of Jewish
businessmen. Fourteen men-eleven of them Jews-were sentenced to death
in staged trials and hanged in the public squares of Baghdad; others
died of torture. On January 27, 1969, Baghdad Radio called upon
Iraqis
to "come and enjoy the feast." Some 500,000 men, women and children
paraded and danced past the scaffolds where the bodies of the hanged
Jews swung; the mob rhythmically chanted "Death to Israel" and "Death
to all traitors." This display brought a world-wide public outcry
that
Radio Baghdad dismissed by declaring:
"We hanged spies, but the Jews crucified Christ." 4 In 1978, Saddam
had been working with other Arab nations to ostracize Egypt for it's
diplomatic initiative in resolving Israel/Arab questions. An ally,
President Hafez al-Assad of Syria, almost became the undoing of
Hussein's ascension. If a Syrian/Iraqi federation were formed against
Egypt, Assad, not Hussein, would rise to a position of greater power
in the relationship. President Bakr would lead the federation with
Assad as second in command. Hussein could not allow that to happen
and
began to urge the President to step down. Again with the help of his
family and security apparatus, Hussein was able to accomplish his
task. On July 16, 1979, President Bakr resigned, officially due to
health problems, but in reality a victim of Hussein's political
in-fighting. Moving quickly to consolidate his power, he called a
major Baathist meeting on July 22, 1979. During the meeting, various
family members and other Hussein devotees urged that the party be
"cleansed". Hussein then read a list of names and asked that they
step
outside. Once there, they are taken into custody. A high-ranking
member of the Revolutionary Command, the head of the labor unions,
the
leading Shiite member of the Command, and twenty (20) others are then
systematically and personally killed by Hussein and his top party
officials. During the next few days, reports indicate that as many as
450 other military officers, deputy prime ministers, and "non-party
faithful" were rounded up and killed. This purge insured Hussein's
consolidation of power in Iraq.
In 1980, Iraq invaded Iran and conducted an eight year war against
one
of his nearest neighbors and the home of Shiite fundamentalist
Muslims. The war continued for eight years of brutality and even
repression of Hussein's own countrymen" -especially the (Sunni) Kurds
(and the Shiite Arabs)-. "2 1941 - In April, in accordance to a 1930
treaty Iraq permits the British to move their troops into Iraq. Iraq
appeals for Nazi support and attacks the British air base at
Habbaniya. The Iraqi army is beaten and Prime Minister Rashid Ali
flees the country. Britian resumes military control. The monarchy is
restored. Saddam Hussein's uncle Khairallah is jailed and Saddam
moves
to live with his mother and step-father 1981 - On June 7th Iraq's
nuclear research reactor was destroyed by an Israeli airforce attack.
President Saddam arranges to have the philosophical writings of his
uncle Khairallah published in a treatise titled 'Three Whom God
Should
Not Have Created: Iranians, Jews and Flies." In September the Iraqi
armed forces pull back East of the Karun river.

The Ministry of Education of Iraq once issued a textbook for boys'
high schools entitled Those Three Whom God Should Not Have Created:

population for the crime of having Iranian ancestry. Most Iraqi Jews
have long since fled to Israel.

in the Iraqi uprising of 1941 and had spent five years in prison for
his nationalist agitation. He filled the impressionable young boy's

great uncles-who gave their lives for the cause of Iraqi nationalism
while fighting foreign invaders. Kairallah, who was later to become
governor of Baghdad, shaped young Hussein's world view, imbuing him
with a hatred of foreigners. In 1981, Saddam republished a pamphlet
written by his uncle entitled "Three Whom God Should Not Have
Created:

Jerusalem (CNSNews.com) - Israel knows that Syria is hiding Iraqi
officials and equipment, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon told a Hebrew
newspaper.

"[Syrian President] Bashar Assad is dangerous. His judgment is
impaired," Sharon was quoted as saying in excerpts published Tuesday
in the daily Yediot Aharonot .

"In the Iraq war he proved he was incapable of drawing conclusions
from very obvious facts. Anyone with eyes in his head would have
known that Iraq was going to be on the losing side. But Assad
thought the United States was going to fail," Sharon said.

The interview broke Israel's official silence on Syria, following a
weekend threat to involve Israel in the event the United States
attacks Syria in its war on terror.

Sharon called on the United States to put "very heavy diplomatic and
economic pressure" on Syria.

He listed five demands: dismantling "palestinian terrorist
organizations" based in Damascus; ousting Iranian Revolutionary
Guards from Lebanon; ending Syrian-Iranian cooperation, including
the transfer of weapons to the so-called
"palestinian" authority and inciting Israeli Arabs; deploying the
Lebanese Army along the Lebanese-Israeli border and ridding the area
of Hizballah; and dismantling the surface-to-surface missile system
that Israel says Hizballah has installed in southern Lebanon.

Tensions have been building between Washington and Damascus during
the war in Iraq, over U.S. allegations that Syria allowed both
fighters and weapons to cross its border into Iraq to fight against
coalition troops.

But President Bush upped the ante over the weekend when he charged
that Syria had chemical weapons and warned that Damascus had better
cooperate.

"The Syrian government needs to cooperate with the United States and
our coalition partners and not harbor any Baathists, any military
officials, any people who need to be held to account for their
tenure," Bush said.


British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said, there were "important
questions" which Damascus needed to answer, such as if it was
harboring Iraqi fugitives or developing "illegal or illegitimate
chemical or biological programs."

Dealing with Syria

Yuval Shteinitz, head of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense
Committee, said that the global war on terrorism could not be
completed without dealing with Syria.

The way Syria is behaving "looks strange," Shteinitz said in a
telephone interview.

On the other hand they must understand ... that they are on the list
of terror-sponsoring states and in any case it is better to play the
hero if they are the next stop in the war on terrorism, he said.

Shteinitz charged that Syria is the number one terrorist sponsoring
nation in the world, ahead of Iraq and Afghanistan....
Syria, which according to U.N. resolutions illegally occupies
Lebanon, also backs the Hizballah terrorist organization based in
south Lebanon and hosts the headquarters of at least a dozen
terrorist organizations in Damascus.

"Without dismantling Hizballah, without dismantling the terror
[organizations] in Damascus [like] Hamas and Islamic Jihad the
global war on terrorism cannot be completed," Shteinitz said.

According to some U.S. experts, he said, Hizballah may be even more
dangerous than al Qaeda.

...... if a full-scale war were launched, Shteinitz said, Israel
would likely be attacked and would strike back.

Israel warned Syria and Hizballah prior to the war in Iraq not to
try to take advantage of the situation to attack Israel and pledged
a severe retaliation for any attacks."
The late Carl Sagan: 1934-1996, wrote of hoped for
"methods of avoiding the self-destruction that seems so real a
danger of our present technological adolescence..." in: Knowledge is
Our Destiny," The Dragons of Eden, p. 234
Sagan was hoping that some extra-terrestrial "advanced
civilizations" might have found those methods.
Here on earth we face the question of whether we can find them
ourselves before it is too late.

Clearly humanity possesses the means to destroy itself. Clearly
humanity lacks
the maturity to avoid destroying itself.

The question is whether the most dangerous people on earth in
possession of the
most dangerous weapons on earth can be disarmed before they can use
those
weapons, or, ideally, can be prevented from possessing those weapons
in the
first place.

Clearly we are in a race against time. Weapons of mass destruction
in the hands of lunatics constitutes a threat to the survival of our
planet. Can
the lunatics be disarmed in time? Can we prevent the lunatics from
becoming
armed with weapons of mass destruction in the first place? How much
time have we
got before it is too late and those weapons start going off in
cities in
America, Israel, Europe, Asia, Australia, etc.? Clearly not much.
The time to
act is now, before it is too late.

We saw the world stand by and do nothing as The Holocaust occurred.
We saw the world stand by and do nothing as Saddam Hussein paid a
bounty for Jewish scalps by paying the families of GENOCIDE BOMBERS
amounts which climbed from $10,000 to $15,000 to $25,000 and would
no doubt have continued to climb had George W. Bush not liberated
Iraq in March of 2003.

search to find the few "Good Germans" who opposed Hitler. The book

the importance to Shia Islam of the Golden Mosque in Samarra which
was bombed by Sunni Moslems more than likely led by Zarqawi and his

THE CONFLICT IN IRAQ; Shrine Holds Great Significance for Shiites

The attackers who bombed the Golden Mosque in Samarra ignited fury
among Iraq's Shiite majority by targeting one of the sect's most
revered shrines.
More so than Sunni Arabs, Shiites believe in the sanctity of
shrines. Pious Shiites from Lebanon to India make pilgrimages to the
shrines of the sect's imams, and Shiite merchants bequeath their
fortunes for the restoration and upkeep of shrines. The Samarra
complex dates to the 9th century, although the famed gold dome was
completed in 1905.
The revered status of the shrines comes from their connection to the
imams, who are "part of the skeleton of the Shiite faith," said
Yitzhak Nakash, associate professor of Middle Eastern and Islamic
Studies at Brandeis University, who has written about Shiites.
Shiites and Sunnis split early in the history of Islam, differing
over succession after the death of the prophet Muhammad in the 7th
century. The first three successors, or caliphs, were Muhammad's
associates, but Shiites rejected them, arguing that Ali, the
prophet's cousin and son-in-law, was the rightful heir.
Ali became the fourth caliph, but the conflict continued after his
death. From then on, supporters, or Shia, of Ali, took a separate
path, regarding him as their first imam and choosing successors from
among his heirs.
One of Ali's sons, Hasan, lost the struggle for caliphate and
another, Hussein, was killed. According to Shiite belief, the
caliphs were trying to wipe out Ali's line of succession by killing
off his heirs-the imams-one by one over the next few centuries.
The Samarra shrine is believed to house the remains of the ninth and
10th of Ali's heirs, Ali Hadi and Hasan Askari. Shiites believe that
both were poisoned in the 9th century by agents of the caliph.
But, many Shiites believe that Askari's young son, Mohammed Mahdi,
disappeared into a cellar near site of the shrine and was not
killed, an event called the occultation.
They regard Mahdi as the 12th or "Hidden Imam," and believe he will
reappear, heralding a new age and avenging the wrongs done to
Shiites by Sunni governments for centuries.
"Mahdi is expected to return one day as a messiah," Nakash said. The
shrine complex is considered a link to the Mahdi. As a result, the
attack on it "is a very significant provocation."

The bombing triggered more than 90 reprisal attacks on Sunni

In Washington, a senior US official said the al-Qaida was suspected
of being behind the attack on the Shia shrine.
"We believe this can be traced back to the Zarqawi al-Qaida
movement," said the State Department's coordinator for Iraq policy,
Ambassador James Jeffrey, on Wednesday adding the United States
would do all it could to track down the perpetrators.
Asked what evidence the US had to link the attack to al-Qaida,
Jeffrey said Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the al-Qaida leader in Iraq, had
often called for attacks on Shia targets and said they were aimed at
sparking civil war.
"We are trying to connect the dots," he told reporters at the State
Department. "We certainly think it would be in line with what they
have been saying and doing."

determination to achieve their longstanding revolutionary
aspirations," the president stressed.
Noting that there was a clear sign of the hegemonic system beginning
to fade away, Ahmadinejad expressed hope that Muslims of the world
would soon witness the complete collapse of hegemony.

If you didn't think Iran could plunge any lower as a nation-state,
you were
wrong.
Iran's semi-official, best-selling newspaper, Hamshahri, actually
published by
the city government of Tehran, is running a contest for the best
cartoons poking
fun at the Holocaust.
While this may be shocking to some, it is actually what we should
expect from
the mad mullahs of Iran.
This is not, as the newspaper editors have suggested, merely a way
for Iranians
to protest the Danish cartoons about Muhammad. This is not just a
way for the
Iranians and the radical Islamic world to attempt to portray
themselves as
victims. This is not just a tit-for-tat exercise.
This is a reflection of the Iranian mullahs' Nazi sympathies. This
is a way for
them to show the entire Islamic world that they still believe in
Hitler's "final
solution." This is just the latest manifestation of 70 years of anti-
Jewish
history in Iran - and a lot longer in the Islamic world.
In fact, do you know how the nation of Iran got its name?
For thousands of years, the country we now know as Iran was known as
Persia.
But in 1935, the shah of Iran, the father of the man deposed in
1979, was a Nazi
sympathizer. He hated the Jews. So he decided to show his true
stripes by
renaming his country Iran, which literally means "land of the
Aryans."
Later, that same shah welcomed Haj Mohammad Amin al-Husseini, the
exiled grand
mufti of Jerusalem, into the country. The mufti was on the run
because of his
pro-Nazi work and his efforts in attempting to bring the Jewish
Holocaust to the
Middle East. Al-Husseini would later go on to inspire and tutor
Yasser Arafat in
the art of Jew-killing. Arafat referred to al-Husseini as "uncle."
The Nazi shah may have received good notices from Berlin, but London
was none
too thrilled with his pro-Nazi position. And, unfortunately for him
and
fortunately for the rest of the world, Hitler did not conquer the
world. The
shah was deposed by the British and replaced with his son.
But the name "Iran" stuck. And it illustrates the visceral,
underlying
anti-Semitism that has shown itself throughout history in the
Islamic world. "

The spectre of the mad man Ahmadinejad in possession of nuclear
weapons possibly

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has openly called for Israel to be
wiped off the map.
"The establishment of the Zionist regime was a move by the world
oppressor against the Islamic world," the president told a
conference in Tehran on Wednesday, entitled The World without
Zionism.
"The skirmishes in the occupied land are part of a war of destiny.
The outcome of hundreds of years of war will be defined in
Palestinian land," he said.
"As the Imam said, Israel must be wiped off the map," said
Ahmadinejad, referring to Iran's revolutionary leader Ayat Allah
Khomeini.
His comments were the first time in years that such a high-ranking
Iranian official has called for Israel's eradication, even though
such slogans are still regularly used at government
rallies.
Call for unity
Addressing about 4000 students gathered in an Interior Ministry
conference hall, Ahmadinejad also called for Palestinian unity,
resistance and a point "where the annihilation of the Zionist regime
will come".
"The Islamic umma (community) will not allow its historic enemy to
live in its heartland," he said in the fiery speech that centred on
a "historic war between the oppressor and the world of Islam". The
term "oppressor" is used by the clerical government to refer to the
United States.
"We should not settle for a piece of land," he said of Israel's
pullout from the Gaza Strip.
"Anyone who signs a treaty which recognises the entity of Israel
means he has signed the surrender of the Muslim world," Ahmadinejad
said.
"Any leaders in the Islamic umma who recognise Israel face the wrath
of their own people." Ahmadinejad ... spoke of a "historic war".
"It dates backs hundreds of years. Sometimes Islam has advanced.
Sometimes nobody was winning. Unfortunately over the past 300 years,
the world of Islam has been in retreat," he lamented. "One hundred
years ago the last trench of Islam fell, when the oppressors went
towards the creation the Zionist regime. It is using it as a fort to
spread its aims in the heart of the Islamic world." Ahmadinejad
said, "There is no doubt that the new wave (of attacks) in Palestine
will soon wipe off this disgraceful blot (Israel) from the face of
the Islamic world."
"Ahmadinejad has clearly declared the doctrine of his government. He
is returning Iran to the revolutionary goals it was pursuing in the
1980s," said Mohammad Sadeq Hosseini, an expert on Middle Eastern
affairs.
"By these comments, Ahmadinejad is committing himself to those
goals. He is also sending the message that his government won't back
down."
Israeli response
Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Mark Regev" (said) "Today,
Israelis heard two extremists speak openly about destroying the
Jewish state. One was the new president of Iran, and the
other was the leader of Hamas, Mahmoud Zahar. "And it appears the
problem with these extremists is that they followed through on their
violent declarations with violent actions."
The United States said Ahmadinejad's remarks proved the accuracy of
Washington's fears about Iran's contentious nuclear programme.
"I think it reconfirms what we have been saying about the regime in
Iran. It underscores the concerns we have about Iran's nuclear
intentions," White House press secretary Scott McClellan said."

Captain of Seized Arms Ship Says Was Sent by PA Official
The jailed captain of the captured Karine A weapon-loaded ship
declared today that a Palestinian Authority official in Greece sent
him to bring the ship through the Red Sea to PA-controlled shores.
On January 3, the Israeli Navy seized control over the Karine A ship
that was sailing in international waters on its way to the Suez
Canal. The shipment included both 122 mm. and 107 mm. Katyusha
rockets, which have ranges of 20 and 8 kilometers respectively. It
also contained 80 mm. and 120 mm. mortar shells, various types of
anti-tank missiles, anti-tank mines, sniper rifles, Kalashnikov
rifles and ammunition.

Seizing of the Palestinian weapons ship Karine A - Jan 4- 2002

A ship carrying weapons intended for the Palestinian Authority was
captured in the Red Sea by Israel's Navy and Air Force. The boat's
cargo included 50 tons of advanced weaponry including Katyusha
rockets, rifles, mortar shells, mines and a variety of anti-tank
missiles. Senior figures in the Palestinian Authority were involved
in the smuggling.

On January 3rd, the Israeli Navy seized control over the Karine A
ship that was sailing in international waters on its way to the Suez
Canal.
The shipment included both 122 mm. and 107 mm. Katyusha rockets,
which have ranges of 20 and 8 kilometers respectively. It also
contained 80 mm. and 120 mm. mortar shells, various types of anti-
tank missiles, anti-tank mines, sniper rifles, Kalashnikov rifles
and ammunition. From Gaza, the 122 mm. Katyushas could have
threatened Ashkelon and other coastal cities; while from the West
Bank, Ben-Gurion International Airport and several major Israeli
cities would have been within their range. The shipment also
included rubber boats and diving equipment, which would have
facilitated seaborne attacks from Gaza against coastal cities.
Preliminary investigation of the crew members has revealed so far
that the commanding officer of the ship is Colonel Omar Akawi. The
ship was purchased by the Palestinian Authority, loaded with weapons
by the Iranians and the Hizbullah, manned by Palestinian Authority
personnel, with the aim of transfering the weapons it carried to the
Palestinian Naval Police near the Gaza beaches.
Since October 2000, Adel Mughrabi, a major buyer in the Palestinian
weapons purchasing system (with the assistance of the Palestinian
Naval Police Commander Juma'a Ghali and his executive Fathi Ghazem),
has been in contact with the Iranians and Hizbullah regarding a vast
weapons smuggling operation for the use of the Palestinian
Authority. This operation included the testing and purchase of
ships, forming a sailing crew and appointing a commander for the
team, as well as making arrangements as to how the weapons would be
stored, loaded onto the vessels, and its journey until delivery to
the Palestinian Authority.
Preliminary investigation of the team members arrested revealed that
the Karine A ship was purchased by Adel Mughrabi in Lebanon, sailed
to Sudan where it was loaded with regular cargo. The crew was then
switched with the team members and in November 2001 sailed to
Hodeida port in Yemen.
In December 2001 the ship sailed according to detailed instructions
from Adel Mughrabi to the beaches of Iran near Qeshm Island. There a
ferry approached it, most likely arriving from Iran, from which the
weapons stored in 80 large wooden crates were transferred and loaded
onto the ship. These weapons were stored in special waterproof
containers produced only in Iran, which are floatable and are set
with a special configurable system that determines how deep they are
submerged, were prepared by Hizbullah personnel for smuggling to the
Palestinian Authority. Included in the ferry team which transferred
the weapons crates to the ship was also a Lebanese trainer, a
Hizbullah operative who trained a diver from the ship's crew in
configuring the floatation devices in Lebanon. The trainer was
present for yet another refreshing training session prior to the
sailing.
After completing the loading process of the weapons onto the ship,
the ship had to divert to Hodeida port in Yemen due to technical
problems. After crossing the canal, the ship was supposed to meet
with three smaller ships that were purchased in advance and to
unload the weapons onto them. According to the plan, the smaller
ships were to leave the weapons near El Arish in Gaza, where the
weapons were to be taken by the commander of the Palestinian Naval
Police Juma'a Ghali and his executive Fathi Ghazem."

CIA "Concerned" about Syrian Nuclear Plans - US Renews Calls on
Lebanon to Disarm Hizbullah
The CIA yesterday presented an annual report to the U.S. Senate in
which the American intelligence agency said it "remains concerned
about Syria's intentions regarding nuclear weapons."
The report, published as a declassified summary, says that "Syria
maintains a ballistic missile and rocket force of hundreds of FROG
rockets, Scuds, and SS-21 SRBMs. With considerable foreign
assistance, Syria progressed to Scud production using primarily
locally manufactured parts. Syrian regional concerns may lead
Damascus to seek a longer range ballistic missile capability such as
North Korea's No Dong medium range ballistic missile." (from

In an interview with the Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation last
night, US National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice renewed its
call for Lebanon to crack down on Hizbullah. "We believe that the
Lebanese government should do with Hizbullah what the United States
and other governments are doing with other terrorist organizations:
freezing assets, not allowing them to operate freely, not allowing
them to run arms freely, not allowing their territory to be used as
sanctuary," Rice said. The Lebanese government has refused to freeze
Hizbullah's assets, despite its announced support for the US

"Abrams tanks have been knocked out near An Najaf,(Iraq), by the
AT14 "Kornet,"
a new Russian-built, solider-carried anti-tank rocket somewhat
similar to the
new U.S. "Javelin" weapon. Kornets are laser-guided for accuracy and
employ an
advanced kinetic penetrator (extreme speed, not explosive power, is

feature) to break through the layered, "composite" armor used by the
Abrams and

obtained it in

Evidence is emerging which supports long-held contentions that
Russia violated
the arms sanctions placed against the Saddam Hussein regime
following the end of
the first Gulf war. Illegal arms supplies, which once found their
way to
Saddam's military, may well flow to guerrilla forces displeased with
the
prospect of a U.S. military administration in post-Saddam Iraq.

Moscow's persistent denial of arms sales to Saddam is becoming
increasingly
unbelievable following the destruction of two advanced U.S. Abrams
M1 tanks by
Russian-made "Kornet" missiles.

The Kornet is a portable missile capable of being laser-guided, and
has a range
of over three miles. Iraq is believed to have purchased some 1500 of
the
weapons, according to a recent report by Radio Free Europe/Radio
Liberty.

The exact route the Kornets took to Iraq is unknown, but many
speculate that
friends of Russia, including Belarus, Ukraine, or Syria acted as
middlemen.

Russia is also believed to have sold night-vision equipment and "GPS-
Jammer"
devices to Saddam's military.

The Russian GPS-Jammers may be responsible for some of the civilian
casualties
in the Iraq conflict. Because the GPS-Jammers can interfere with the
remote
guidance of U.S. missiles, it is possible that a missile could be
deflected from
its intended target and mistakenly hit a civilian location.

Although the U.S. has methods to counter the Jammers, the use of the
Jammers
could still result in a missile going up to 50 feet off target, and
possibly
cause unintended damage, Der Spiegel reported.

Moscow's influence in Iraq may not come to an end with the
destruction of
Saddam's dictatorship. Forces hostile to a U.S. military
administration in Iraq
will be searching for friends and sources for military hardware."

Israel to Moscow: Hezbollah used Russian-made missiles against IDF

Israel has complained to Russia that Russian-made anti-tank missiles
have
reached Hezbollah guerrillas who used them against Israel Defense
Forces troops
in south Lebanon, government officials said Friday.

An Israeli delegation traveled to Moscow earlier this week to
deliver the
complaint, said Asaf Shariv, a senior adviser to Prime Minister Ehud
Olmert.

The anti-tank missiles proved to be one of Hezbollah's most
effective weapons in
combat with Israeli soldiers in Lebanon. Such missiles killed at
least 50 of the
118 soldiers who died in the 34-day war that ended this week.

Another government official, speaking on condition of anonymity
because he was
not authorized to discuss the matter with the media, said the
delegation was
"senior," but refused to say who they would be meeting with in
Russia.

Israel does not accuse Russia of directly arming Hezbollah, but
complains that
Russia sold the weapons to Iran and Syria, known supporters of
Hezbollah, who
then passed them on to the guerrilla group....


At least 20 Israel Defense Forces soldiers were killed over the
course of one
month's fighting in Lebanon as a result of anti-tank missile fire
from Hezbollah
guerillas.

Although the IDF has yet to provide detailed data, it is widely
acknowledged
that many tanks were seriously damaged from the missiles (and other
explosives),
and some tanks were completely destroyed.

It is clearly evident that Hezbollah exerted considerable effort in
preparing
and training its anti-tank units in addition to its build-up of its
Katyusha
rocket arsenal.

Hezbollah has at its disposal a wide variety of missiles provided by
Iran and
Syria, including the advanced "Kornet" and "Metis" models - whose
range reaches
a number of kilometers - as well as the upgraded Sagger missiles,
TOW anti-tank
missiles, and older-model rocket-propelled grenades.

The missiles, which were fired at a distance of up to 2 kilometers
from their
target, enabled Hezbollah to strike at IDF tanks and armored
vehicles. In
addition, the weapons also proved useful for fighting in built-up
urban areas.

In the village of Aita Shaab, Hezbollah fighters armed with the
missiles were
able to score precise hits on buildings which IDF soldiers used for
cover.
Hezbollah also successfully targeted IDF troops who sought to
advance in open
areas.

Soldiers who returned from the front recounted how Hezbollah
operatives were
able to fire missiles accurately through windows of homes in which
soldiers
stayed.

While European Union officials praised Yasser Arafat's decision to
appoint his first-ever prime minister, historians of the Holocaust
winced at the news that a leading candidate for the job is the
author of a book denying that the Nazis murdered 6 million Jews.
The candidate is Mahmoud Abbas (also known as Abu Mazen), Arafat's
second in command, and his book, published in Arabic in 1983,
translates as "The Other Side: The Secret Relations Between Nazism
and the Leadership of the Zionist Movement." It was originally his
doctoral dissertation, completed at Moscow Oriental College.
The book repeatedly attempts to cast doubt on the fact that the
Nazis slaughtered 6 million Jews, according to a translation
provided by the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles.
"Following the war," he writes, "word was spread that six million
Jews were amongst the victims and that a war of extermination was
aimed primarily at the Jews...The truth is that no one can either
confirm or deny this figure. In other words, it is possible that the
number of Jewish victims reached six million, but at the same time
it is possible that the figure is much smaller-below one million."
Abbas denies that the gas chambers were used to murder Jews, quoting
a "scientific study" to that effect by French Holocaust-denier
Robert Faurisson.
Abbas' book then asserts: "The historian and author Raoul Hilberg
thinks that the figure does not exceed 890,000."
That is, of course, utterly false. Hilberg, a distinguished
historian and author of the classic study "The Destruction of the
European Jews," has never said or written any such thing.
Abbas believes the 6 million figure is the product of a Zionist
conspiracy: "It seems that the interest of the Zionist movement...is
to inflate this figure so that their gains will be greater," he
writes. "This led them to emphasize this figure in order to gain the
solidarity of international public opinion with Zionism. Many
scholars have debated the figure of six million and reached stunning
conclusions-fixing the number of Jewish victims at only a few
hundred thousand."
Another falsehood. In fact, no serious scholar proposes such a
figure.
After reducing the magnitude of the Nazi slaughter so that it no
longer seems to have been a full-scale Holocaust, Abbas seeks to
absolve the Nazis by blaming the Zionist leadership for whatever
killings did take place. According to Abbas, "A partnership was
established between Hitler's Nazis and the leadership of the Zionist
movement...[the Zionists gave] permission to every racist in the
world, led by Hitler and the Nazis, to treat Jews as they wish, so
long as it guarantees immigration to Palestine."
In addition to encouraging the persecution of Jews so they would
immigrate to the Holy Land, the Zionist leaders actually wanted Jews
to be murdered, because-in Abbas' words-"having more victims meant
greater rights and stronger privilege to join the negotiation table
for dividing the spoils of war once it was over. However, since
Zionism was not a fighting partner-suffering victims in a battle-it
had no escape but to offer up human beings, under any name, to raise
the number of victims, which they could then boast of at the moment
of accounting."
Perhaps sentiments of this sort were common within Abbas' circle of
graduate students in the Soviet Union in the 1970s. But in the free
world, such propaganda has never been accepted as serious
scholarship.
In most Western countries, Holocaust-deniers have been treated as
pariahs. In Canada and many European countries, Holocaust-denial is
a criminal offense. In New Zealand, Canterbury University recently
issued an apology for having accepting a master's thesis denying the
Holocaust, while the French minister of education revoked a doctoral
degree that was awarded to a Holocaust-denier by the University of
Nantes. A Polish university professor who denied the Holocaust was
suspended from his position. The Japanese publisher Bungei Shunju
shut down one of its magazines for printing an article denying the
Holocaust.
International pressure compelled Croatian President Franjo Tudjman
to publicly retract statements in his book doubting that the
Holocaust had taken place. Austrian Freedom Party leader Jorg Haider
was ostracized by the international community for his remarks
praising members of the SS, as was French politician Jean Marie Le
Pen, for questioning the existence of the gas chambers and
belittling the significance of the Holocaust. A recent poll found 64
percent of Americans believe world leaders should likewise refuse to
meet with Abbas.
Yet some in the media have treated Abbas with kid gloves, to say the
least. The official BCC News Profile of Abbas reports: "A highly
intellectual man, Abbas studied law in Egypt before doing a Ph.D. in
Moscow. He is the author of several books." The New York Times
recently characterized Abbas as "a lawyer and historian...He holds a
doctorate in history from the Moscow Oriental College; his topic was
Zionism." Neither the BBC nor the Times offered any further
explanation as to the contents of Abbas' writings.
Bestowing the title "historian" upon Mahmoud Abbas awards his
writings a stature they do not deserve, and deals a grievous insult
to every genuine historian.
If Abbas is elevated to the post of prime minister of the
Palestinian Authority, not only the media but the entire

Mahmoud Abbas (aka Abu Mazen - his adopted Terrorist nickname) has
returned to
Russia to visit his trainers. This is the man who wrote his thesis
in the Soviet
Union that the Holocaust was merely a fable. This is the man who
Prime Minister
Ariel Sharon has started to support - with fervor!

It is instructive to note that Abu Mazen returns to meet Vladimir
Putin,
Russia's President now, but formerly high in their KGB. Putin
himself has
started to return to his KGB days and Cold War attitudes.

Abu Mazen follows a four day visit by Bashar Assad, President of
Syria, cutting
a deal for Russia supplies SS-18 Missiles (that we know about)!
Clearly, it is
time to once again re-target Russia with our own ICBMs as Putin
deploys new
Ballistic Missiles.

What does Abu Mazen want from his former and present handlers of the
Soviet
Union - now Russia? What weapons will he request once there is an
open Airport
in Gaza and Sea Terminals? Will he get artillery, missiles, armor and
shoulder-fired missiles - all shipped out in the open - thanks to
Sharon.

With the first major attacks by the Arab Muslim Palestinians against
Israeli
cities which should be followed by dismissing the Israeli
government. This
should be followed by mass arrests of top Government officials of
both Likud and
the Labor Parties - for treason. Trials to follow but, in the
interim, enforced
detention to insure those responsible are cut off from communicating
with either
the Palestinians or such foreign nations with whom they have been
working...under the table.

In the meantime, the Left Liberal Press in Israel, the U.S., Foreign
Media are
gleefully cheering a few days of seeming quiet, although there have
been
numerous mortar and Kassem Rockets attacks - not worth reporting.
Several weeks
of arranged quiet, in order to push the Sharon-Bush evacuation is a
typical
betrayal of Jews. When Arab Muslim Terrorists are quiet for 5, 10 or
50 years
only then can one say there is a possible opportunity for peace.

Abu Mazen's short-term agreement with his Hamas, Islamic Jihad,
Hezb'Allah,
Tanzim, Fatah Terrorists is merely grim humor as the Jew-hating
Media puts out
cheerful stories of how the Jihadists have shown their peaceful side.

RUSSIA BACKS ABBAS AS MIDDLE EAST PEACE HOPES
BUILD
MOSCOW (AFP) - Russia pledged its "active" support for the
Palestinians amid
growing signs of a revival in the long-dormant Middle East peace
process as
visiting Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas voiced "high hopes" Moscow
would
advance the drive to restart peace talks.

"You are the recognized leader of the Palestinian people and we will
actively
support you," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told Abbas in
front of
reporters after the two held talks.

Speaking afterwards at the Kremlin where he held a meeting with
Russian
President Vladimir Putin (news - web sites), Abbas said there was
now a
"historic" opportunity to rekindle the Middle East peace process and
said Russia
had a decisive role to play in doing so.

"There is a historic chance to bring about peace in the region,"
Abbas said.

"Russia's support in bilateral relations and in the framework of the
quartet
will be of decisive neimportance in establishing a universal and
stable peace in
the Middle East," the Palestinian leader said in remarks spoken in
Arabic and
translated into Russian by an interpreter.

Putin said he hoped Abbas would succeed in implementing measures
needed to
improve the Palestinian-Israeli relationship and bolster the
Palestinian
economy.

"We are ready to cooperate with you and the international community
in an active
way to resolve these issues," Putin said.

Abbas underscored that his decision to travel to Moscow before
visiting the
United States or the European Union (news - web sites) was
deliberate and said
the Palestinians "have placed high hopes in Russia advancing the
peace process."

Analysts said Russia, which has also developed warm relations with
Israel since
then, was examining various ways to reassert its interests in the
Middle East
and elsewhere, and Abbas' visit marked Putin's first direct
engagement in the
peace process in four years.

"The main goal of the Palestinian visitor is to obtain Russia's
support in
anticipation of difficult negotiations with the Israelis," the
respected
centrist daily Izvestia said Monday.

"But the question remains open: Is Moscow ready at this time to
support the
representative of the late Arafat -- not just with words but with
concrete
deeds?" the paper added, referring to the former Palestinian leader
Yasser
Arafat. Both the Palestinians and Israelis have taken several
critical steps
towards resuming peace talks since Arafat's death.

On Sunday, tens of thousands of Israelis demonstrated against their
government's
plans to pull out of the Gaza Strip, as officials announced the army
could pull
back from several West Bank towns within days.

Abbas has also secured an unofficial "cooling down" period from
Palestinian
militant leaders but wants Israel to reciprocate by ending military
operations
and starting to release Palestinian prisoners so that he can cement
a full
ceasefire.

Tragically the opposition in December of 2004 to the sale
of American air to air missiles to Jordan was not strong enough.
Such missiles
could be used to shoot down
American and allied aircraft, both civilian and military and might
even be
used in America itself by terrorists who could easily get their
hands on them.
Moreover arms to Jordan have historically ended up in enemy hands,
including
those of Saddam Hussein, and could end up in the hands of those
killing our
troops in Iraq today.

WASHINGTON - The Bush administration has authorized the sale of 50
sophisticated
American-made air-to-air missiles to Jordan, according to the U.S.
military.
Israel, Jordan's neighbor, had previously protested the proposed
sale. Sending
Jordan 50 AIM-120C Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles
(AMRAAM) and
associated parts and systems would boost its ability to shoot down
enemy
aircraft at long range with its U.S.-designed F-16 fighters.
The sale is valued at up to $39 million, according to a release from
the U.S.
Defense Security Cooperation Agency. The missiles' primary
manufacturer is
Raytheon Missile Systems of Tucson, Ariz.
"The proposed sale will enhance the foreign policy and national
security
objectives of the United States by improving the security of a key
regional
partner who has proven to be a vital force for political stability
and peace in
the Middle East," the release says. "Jordan needs these missiles to
enhance the
air-to-air self-defense capability of its F-16 aircraft and provide
for
increased interoperability with U.S. forces."
Although Israel and Jordan have had a peace treaty since 1996,
Israel argued in
August that the sale would set a dangerous precedent for U.S. arms
deals in
region. Tel Aviv had asked Washington to either render the missiles
incapable of
being fired on Israeli aircraft, or promise not to conclude a
similar sale with
the government of Egypt. Israel and Egypt also have a peace treaty,
but Israel
has expressed concerns about an arms race in the region.
Pentagon (news - web sites) and State Department officials declined
to say
whether, and how, Israel's concerns had been dealt with. A State
Department
official said regional concerns were taken into account but declined
to say
more. Congress has until Dec. 20 to pass a joint resolution opposing
the sale,
which would effectively kill it. But officials familiar with the
deal said that
was unlikely at this stage in negotiations. "

"Huge cache of Jordanian weapons found near Basra
Reuters News Service EAST OF BASRA, Iraq -- British troops have
discovered a
huge cache of munitions in cases marked "Jordan Armed Forces" just
outside
Basra. A Reuters team filmed and photographed the cache, around
three miles
east of Iraq's second city, and British bomb disposal experts
prepared to
blow it up today. "I don't know exactly how much there is. We aren't
exactly
going to hang around and count it," said one British officer
guarding the
cache. "It's a bloody lot, though. Obviously for a forward position."
"It was no secret that Jordan along with other Western countries were
sending military equipment to Iraq." The cache was found near a
series of locks
controlling the flow of the Euphrates River through the marshes that
lead into
the Arabian Gulf. Three brick sheds built alongside the road were
piled from
floor to ceiling with wooden crates packed with shells, mortar bombs
and other
munitions. All were marked "GHQ Jordan Armed Forces, Dir of Plng and
Org."
Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld last week alleged that supplies of
night-vision goggles were entering Iraq through Syria.

Special Report: Kuchma Approved Sale of Weapons System to Iraq

(WASHINGTON April 15, 2002) -- Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma
personally authorized the clandestine sale of $100-million worth of
high-technology anti-aircraft radar systems to Iraq on July 10,
2000, in
violation of United Nations sanctions.
The Center for Public Integrity has obtained audio tape of a
conversation between Kuchma and Valeri Malev, then-director of the
state-owned
arms exporting company, Ukrspetseksport. In the conversation Kuchma
approved the export of the radar system, known as Kolchuga, and the
manner of its shipment: by hiding it in crates used to export
Ukrainian trucks. Kuchma also agreed to send experts to Iraq with
forged
passports to deploy the system. The operation was to be conducted by
Leonid
Vasilievich Derkach, then chief of the Ukrainian security service,
the SBU.
The Kolchuga, named after the ancient Russian warrior body armor, is
manufactured by the Ukrainian company Topaz. The system can identify,
detect and lock anti-aircraft missiles on aerial targets at a range
of close to 500 miles, and is able to override "stealth" technology.
It is
capable of detecting ground targets at 370 miles.
"We are quite familiar with that," Jim Brooks, a spokesman for the
Defense Intelligence Agency, said when asked if Iraq had deployed
long-range
passive radar systems. "Iraq has them." One European intelligence
expert said
that if Iraq had obtained the stations, it would be "frightening."
The sale is a clear violation of U.N. sanctions imposed on Iraq. U.N.
Security Council Resolution 661 makes any sale or supply of "weapons
or
any other military equipment" to Iraq illegal.
Ewen Buchanan, spokesman for the U.N. Monitoring and Verification
Commission on Iraq (UNMOVIC), said that "no information has come our
way regarding sale of radars by Ukraine to Iraq."
In the conversation, Malev revealed that Iraq approached Ukraine
through an unnamed Jordanian intermediary to buy the early warning
and
targeting system that consists of four stations and is "passive"
because it is
difficult for the pilot to realize he has been picked up on radar.
Conventional
radar sends out a high-frequency signal that pilots can detect and
hence
alert them if they are being tracked.
"Just watch that the Jordanian keeps his mouth shut," said Kuchma,
giving the go-ahead for the plan. Oleksandr Zhyr, a Ukrainian
lawmaker, said he
believed that Kuchma had benefited financially from the sale. "It is
very
unlikely that the $100 million could have gone to the state budget
as it was the
proceeds of an illegal arms deal." Major Mykola Melnychenko, a
former senior
security officer for Kuchma, recorded the conversation between the
president and
Malev on July 10, 2000 Melnychenko, who has received political
asylum in the
United States, recorded more than 1,000 hours of conversations in
Kuchma's
office,and gave testimony on April 11 before a grand jury weighing
money-laundering charges against former Ukrainian Prime Minister
Pavlo
Lazarenko. Tapes are 'continuous and unaltered' Audiotape expert
Bruce Koenig of
Virginia-based BEK TEK authenticated the tape and found that the
recording was
unedited. "Based on the flow of speech in the designated portion, no
phraseology or sentence structure was pieced together by using
individual
phonemes, words or short phrases," Koenig said in his report.
"It is the opinion of BEK TEK...that the specimen is continuous and
unaltered." Koenig, who examined and analyzed video and audio
recordings as a
Federal Bureau of Investigation special agent for 21 years before
founding BEK TEK, lists the U.S. Congress, the Department of
Defense, the
FBI, the Office of the Independent Counsel, the Department of
Justice, and the
United Nations among his clients. He also has provided expert
testimony in court cases. Earlier this year, Koenig authenticated the
Melnychenko recording in which Kuchma allegedly discussed ways to
get rid of
Ukrainska Pravda journalist Georgy Gongadze. Gongadze disappeared on
Sept. 16,
2000. His headless corpse was found two months later in a Kiev
suburb.
A Ukrainian official denied there had been any arms sales from
Ukraine to
Iraq. "We never violated any sanctions and we are a reliable partner
of the international community," he said. He said accusations about
illegal
sales had been investigated in Ukraine and they had found that the
charges
were groundless. The Ukrainian prosecutor-general Mykhaylo Potebenko
told
Ukrainian television on March 7 that his office is not planning to
question
Melnychenko and that he would not trust the authentication tests done
by "unknown" BEK TEK. Potebenko also said that the findings of a U.S.
probe could not be accepted as evidence in the Gongadze case. The
unsolved Gongadze murder is still of grave concern to U.S.
authorities. National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice told a panel
of
Ukrainian journalists on March 4 that a team of investigators from
the FBI
would leave for Ukraine in April to assist authorities in the
investigation.
In March 2001, a political party linked to Kuchma, Trudova Ukraina
(Working Ukraine) hired New York-headquartered Kroll Associates, a
private investigation company, to examine the Gongadze murder. Viktor
Pinchuk, Kuchma's son-in-law, is one of the leaders of Trudova
Ukraina. Kroll, which allegedly was paid $250,000 to conduct the
investigation, questioned the authenticity of the tapes and found no
evidence
directly linking Kuchma to the murder of Gongadze. "There is no
conclusive
evidence to show that President Kuchma ordered or was otherwise
involved
in the murder," Kroll said in its conclusion. The lead investigators
on the
six-month investigation were Michael Cherkassy, the president and
CEO of Kroll,
and Robert Viteretti, Kroll's New York office chief. International
monitoring
groups and the political opposition criticized Kroll for focusing on
clearing
Kuchma's name and reputation instead of investigating the murder of
Gongadze.
Viteretti said they had been hindered by the fact that Melnychenko
had refused to meet with them or cooperate in any way. "Melnychenko
would
not make the original tapes available," he said. "So our analysis
was based
on second or third generation recordings." Kroll has not revealed
which
audio experts it had used to check the tapes. 'Non-stop criminal
activity'
Melnychenko said he waited until after the Ukrainian parliamentary
elections on March 31 to release the explosive new tape because he
did not want to be perceived as "politically motivated." "What I
recorded in the
office of the President of Ukraine in most cases has nothing to do
with the
politics," Melnychenko said. "I recorded what I
believe is the evidence of almost non-stop criminal activity of the
president and his men." Zhyr, the Ukrainian lawmaker, said that
Kuchma was told
on March 3, 2002 that a parliamentary commission had evidence that
the president
had violated the international arms embargo against Iraq. Three days
later, Valeri Malev was killed when his car allegedly veered into
oncoming
traffic and collided with a truck. Malev had been in charge of
Ukrspetseksport
since 1998. He served as the Ukrainian minister of machine building
and the
military-industrial complex from 1995 to 1997 and later became a
presidential
adviser. Zhyr told the Center that Malev's death was
premeditated. "The car
trip was not planned by Malev," said Zhyr. "He suddenly received an
instruction to travel somewhere where he was accidentally killed.
This should be
investigated in the context of the illegal arms sales to Iraq...
"Kuchma and his men are scared of the investigations and therefore
they are
removing all the key witnesses," said Zhyr. Zhyr said he had had
several working
meetings with the U.S. Justice Department and that he wanted U.S. law
enforcement agencies to play an important role in investigating the
alleged
corruption of the Kuchma presidency. "The Ukrainian law enforcement
agencies are
unable to conduct an effective investigation in any case where top
government
officials are involved," he said. He added that so far only about 10
percent of
the tapes recorded by Melnychenko had been reviewed, and added that
Kuchma was
personally involved in arms sales to two other rogue states.
The New York Times reported from Kiev on April 9th that six
Ukrainians
who "threatened the established power structure" had died and two
had been injured in automobile accidents since December 1997.
'Serious concern'U.S.-Ukraine relations have been on a roller
coaster since
Ukraine gained independence in August 1991. Ukraine removed
plutonium-rich
nuclear power rods and freely dismantled its nuclear arsenals, and
has been
one of the largest recipients of U.S. aid of the post-Communist
countries.
Ukraine is also a close ally of Russia whose support has been
essential to
the U.S. led war on terrorism. However, the United States has
expressed concern
about alleged corruption, government pressure on the media and
election
procedures among other issues. After the terrorist attacks against
the United
States in September 2001, Ukraine shared intelligence and opened its
airspace
for U.S. military cargo flights. In addition, airfields and
railroads were made
available to the U.S. for supplying troops and delivering
humanitarian aid in
Afghanistan. A U.S. State Department official said that, if the sale
of arms and
military equipment to Iraq were proven, the United States would
consider
sanctions against violating countries. The official, who said she
was not in a
position to confirm the sale, added that the State Department viewed
any report
of weapon sales to Iraq with "serious concern." Jim Brooks, the
Defense
Intelligence Agency spokesman, downplayed the importance of the
Kolchuga. He
said the Iraqis' training was "not at that
level where they can handle a coordinated attack. The other thing
that system doesn't tell you is what's coming at you. You could
technically overwhelm their system by firing Tomahawk cruise
missiles. And then
follow up with manned aircraft, which is what happened during the
Gulf War. We also saw that in Kosovo." Scott Ritter, former United
Nations chief
weapons inspector and now critic of the U.S. administration's Iraq
policy, said
he was not surprised that Iraq had rebuilt its air defense systems.
U.N.
sources said they were aware of the alleged reports about
Ukraine violating U.N. sanctions but that no concrete evidence had
been
introduced in the Iraqi sanctions committee. Sources said the issue
was "very
sensitive" because of the close relationship between Ukraine and
Russia, which
is a permanent member of the U.N. Security Council, the forum that
would
eventually have to make a political decision on sanctions busting.
The Center's findings are part of a larger investigation into the
commerce of war by its International Consortium of Investigative
Journalists, to
be published later this year.

Kuchma: What is Kolchuga
Malev: Kolchuga is a passive radar station manufactured by Topaz.
Each system consists of four pieces.
Kuchma: Can you sell it without the Jordanian
Malev: Well, Leonid Danilovich, I suggest Leonid Vasilievich (then
chief of SBU, the Ukrainian security service - editor) looks at the
export
structure to Iraq. Our KrAZ company ships its products in crates. We
can use the
crates marked by KrAZ. In other words, Kolchuga should be shipped to
Iraq in
KrAZ crates. Then we will send people with forged passports that will
install the system. Kuchma: Just watch that the Jordanian keeps his
mouth
shut...it will have to be checked that they don't detect it.
Malev: Who is going to detect it We don't sell much to them. I mean
to Jordan.
Kuchma: Okay. Go ahead.
Malev: Thank you.

George W. Bush apologized to the King of Jordan for the overblown
scandal over
the treatment of prisoners in Iraq. No such apologies from the King
of Jordan
for Jordan's having armed Iraq can be recalled. What can be recalled
is the
recent snub by the
King of Jordan to George W. Bush.

that "Americans,like me, didn't appreciate what we saw, that it made

Iraqi prisoners, and the humiliation suffered by their families,"
Bush said. "I
told him I was equally sorry that people who have been seeing those
pictures
didn't understand the true nature and heart of America."
A wide variety of officials in the administration had advised Bush to
apologize on Wednesday when he gave interviews to two Arab television
channels and were puzzled when he did not, senior U.S. officials
said. An apology had been recommended in the talking points Bush
received from
the State Department and elsewhere, the officials said. Senior
administration aides then made a push overnight for him to say he
was sorry during his news conference with Abdullah, the officials
said.

Ukraine parliament demands withdrawal of troops from Iraq

KIEV (AFP) - Ukraine's parliament voted to demand the withdrawal of
the 1,600
Ukrainian troops from Iraq (news - web sites), in a move the
opposition
distanced itself from and denounced as a provocation by government
forces.
"We don't think this is the right time to raise this issue," Irina
Gerashchenko,
the spokeswoman for pro-Western opposition leader Viktor Yushchenko,
told AFP.
"We need to resolve the internal crisis in Ukraine," she said,
adding that the
motion had been proposed by the Communists and backed by pro-
government
lawmakers with the support of a minority of opposition
deputies. "This is a
provocation, an attempt to discredit us," the opposition spokeswoman
said. The
lawmakers voted by 257 out of 397 present in the 450-member chamber
to ask
outgoing President Leonid Kuchma to pull out the Ukrainian
contingent serving in
the US-led coalition force in Iraq.
Both of the rival candidates to replace Kuchma, Yushchenko and pro-
Russian Prime
Minister Viktor Yanukovich, have said the troops should return but
the
opposition is pushing for a faster withdrawal timetable. "We do
support a
pullout of the Ukrainian forces, but not in a hasty manner. It needs
to be
discussed properly in parliament first," Gerashchenko said. The
United States
has given covert support to the West-leaning opposition leader in
this strategic
nation as it engages in a Cold War-style battle for influence with
Russia, which
openly backed the Kremlin-friendly Yanukovich."

of the Levant are a nation; others said Eastern Arabic speakers; or
all Arabic
speakers; or all Moslems. But no one suggested "SO-
CALLED "palestinians," and

reason. SO-CALLED "palestinie" , then a secular way of saying Eretz
Yisra'el or Terra Sancta, embodied a purely Jewish and Christian
concept, one
utterly foreign to Moslems, even repugnant to them. This distaste
was confirmed
in April 1920, when the
British occupying force carved out a "Palestine." Moslems reacted
very suspiciously, rightly seeing this designation as a victory for
Zionism. Less accurately, they worried about it signaling a revival
in the
Crusader impulse. No prominent Moslem voices endorsed the
delineation of
Palestine in 1920; all protested it. Instead, Moslems west of the
Jordan
directed their allegiance to
Damascus, where the great-great-uncle of Jordan's King Abdullah II
was then ruling; they identified themselves as Southern Syrians.
Interestingly, no one advocated this affiliation more emphatically
than a young
man named Amin Husseini. In July 1920, however, the French overthrew
this
Hashemite king, in the process killing the notion of a Southern
Syria. Isolated
by the events of
April and July, the Moslems of Palestine made the best of a bad
situation. One prominent Jerusalemite commented, just days following
the fall of
the Hashemite kingdom: "after the recent events in Damascus, we have
to effect a
complete change in our plans here. Southern Syria no longer exists.
We must
defend SO-CALLED "palestine" " Following this advice, the leadership
in
December 1920 adopted the goal of establishing an independent SO-
CALLED
"palestinian" state. Within a few years, this
effort was led by Husseini. Other identities - Syrian, Arab, and
Moslem - continued to compete for decades afterward with the SO-
CALLED "palestinian" one, but the latter has by now mostly swept the

Where did the name Palestine come from
The name Palestine refers to a region of the eastern Mediterranean
coast from the sea to the Jordan valley and from the southern Negev
desert to the Galilee lake region in the north. The word itself
derives from "Peleshet", a name that appears frequently in the Bible
and has come into English as "Philistine". The Philistines were
Mediterranean people originating from Asia Minor and Greek
localities. They reached the southern coast of Israel in several
waves. One group arrived in the pre-patriarchal period and settled
south of Beersheba in Gerar where they came into conflict with
Abraham, Isaac and Ishmael. Another group, coming from Crete after
being repulsed from an attempted invasion of Egypt by Rameses III in
1194 BCE, seized the southern coastal area, where they founded five
settlements (Gaza, Ascalon, Ashdod, Ekron and Gat). In the Persian
and Greek periods, foreign settlers - chiefly from the Mediterranean

closely related to the Greeks. They did not speak Arabic. They had no

The name "Falastin" that Arabs today use for "Palestine" is not an
Arabic name. It is the Arab pronunciation of the Greco-Roman
"Palastina"; which is derived from the Peleshet, (root Pelesh) which
was a general term meaning "dividers", "penetrators" or "invaders".
This referred to the Philistine's invasion and conquest of the coast
from the sea.
The Roman historian Herodotus was the first to mention the name. He
called it "the Philistine Syria." Subsequently, the name was
shortened to "Palestina," and eventually Palestine. The Christian
Crusaders employed the word to refer to the general area that had
been known since the fourth century as the "three Palestines." After
the fall of the crusader kingdom, Palestine was no longer an official
designation. The name, however, continued to be used informally for
the lands on both sides of the Jordan River. The Ottoman Turks, who
were non-Arabs but religious Muslims, ruled the area for 400 years
(1517-1917). Under Ottoman rule, Palestine attached administratively
to the province of Damascus and ruled from Istanbul. The name
Palestine was revived after the fall of the Ottoman Empire in World
War I and applied to this territory under the British Mandate.

forces in May

The women admitted working on Saddam's biological and germ warfare

detainees in

Washington -- For the past half century, Syria's overriding military
objective
has been the destruction of Israel. Yet on the battlefield, Syria
has been
defeated by the Israeli Defense Force in every conventional military
engagement,
most spectacularly in 1967, 1973, and 1982.(1) A realistic
assessment of its
conventional military performance has led Syria to adopt a new four-
track
strategy in hopes of thwarting Israel by other means: state
sponsorship of
terrorism; a quest for weapons of mass destruction; a steady build-
up of
offensive and defense missile systems; and active weapons
proliferation. For
these reasons, although Syria's conventional forces remain
inadequate, the
unconventional threat from Syria has become considerable.

Sponsorship of Terrorism

Since the early 1980s, Damascus has openly provided material and
political
backing to the militant Islamic terrorist group Hezbollah, gaining
Syria a
prominent place on the U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism. In
its
ceaseless struggle against Israel, Hezbollah has committed terrorist
acts
against Israelis and Americans, including the suicide bombings of
the U.S.
embassy and the U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut, as well as the
firing of
low-flying Katyusha rockets at Israeli civilian populations.(2) In
addition to
its support for Hezbollah, Syria aids and abets radical Palestinian
terrorist
groups such as Hamas and Islamic Jihad, which have been largely
responsible for
the escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in recent years.

Weapons of Mass Destruction

Similar to its support for terrorism, Syria's WMD program has been
active for
decades. Syria received its initial chemical warfare assistance and
supplies,
including chemical agents, from Egypt prior to the 1973 October War
against
Israel. At present, Syria has the largest and most advanced
stockpile of
chemical weapons in the Middle East, including Sarin, VX, and
mustard gas.
Analysts claim that Syria's major production facilities are located
near
Damascus, Homs, and Hama, and generate hundreds of tons of chemical
agents
annually. Delivery options include chemical warheads for ballistic
missiles as
well as chemical gravity bombs. At present, Syria is not a signatory
of the
Chemical Weapons Convention.(4)

Syria also possesses biological weapons, including anthrax,
botulinum toxin, and
ricin. According to a 2003 CIA report, Damascus is currently
expanding its
biological capability with the aid of foreign sources. (5) John
Bolton,
Undersecretary of State for Arms Control, recently testified before
the House
International Relations Committee that Syria is "continuing to
develop an
offensive biological weapons capability."(6) In addition to its
chemical and
biological weaponry, the CIA notes that Syria has a nuclear research
center at
Dayr al-Hajar and has access to Russian expertise, should it
consider pursuing
nuclear weapons.(7)

Ballistic Missiles

Syria's sponsorship of terrorism and quest for weapons of mass
destruction is
especially troubling due to its steady build-up of offensive
ballistic missile
systems. Syria's missile program, which dates back to the 1970s,
includes Scud
B, C, and D variants, SS-21s, M-9 and M-11 variants, and Frog-7s. It
is
currently one of the largest arsenals of offensive weapons in the
Middle East,
thanks largely to Russia, China, and North Korea. Assistance from
the former
Soviet Union has included sales of Scuds, SS-21s, and Frog-7s. In
recent years,
China has sent diplomatic and technological delegations to Syria to
discuss
strategies for boosting Syria's missile capabilities, the focus of
which has
been to extend the range of Syria's Scuds from short to medium and
even
intermediate.(8) North Korea has concentrated on helping Syria to
establish a
solid-propellant rocket motor development and production capability.

In late 2004 and early 2005, reports have indicated that Russia
plans to sell of
number of new missile systems to Syria, including the made-for-
export SS-26
Iskander missile, the S-300PMU-2 air and missile defense system, and
the
shoulder-fired SS-18 Igla anti-aircraft missile. Most worrisome is
the SS-26
Iskander's reported range of 280 kilometers, which would allow Syria
to attack
nearly all of Israel.(10) Syria is also said to be negotiating the
purchase of
the Russian S-400 air and missile defense system, said to be
comparable or
superior to the U.S. Patriot PAC-3 interceptor.(11) Including these
recent
developments, it is apparent that Syria's offensive arsenal, if
armed with
chemical or biological weapons and protected by a sizeable air and
missile
defense shield, poses a serious threat to Israel, as well as U.S.
forces
stationed in the Middle East, and even a democratic Iraq.

Missile Proliferation

In addition to its own missile capabilities, Syria engages in
dangerous
proliferation behavior. In January 2004 and afterward, Syria is
reported to have
sent Scud C and D missiles as well as chemical weapons to the Sudan.
The arms
shipments were recently revealed when Sudanese President Omar
Bashir, fearing
U.S. sanctions, ordered the missiles and chemical weapons removed
from his
country.(12) In addition, it has been revealed by Major General
Ze'evi Farkash,
head of the Israeli Defense Force intelligence branch, that
Hezbollah recently
sought to acquire short-range ballistic missiles armed with chemical
weapons
from Syria. Farkash noted that Hezbollah might already have as many
as 30
missiles that are capable of traveling 215 kilometers.(13)

The Threat

Taken together, the threat from Syria looms large. Until Damascus
abandons its
state sponsorship of terrorism, WMD programs, steady build-up of
offensive and
defensive missile systems, and active weapons proliferation, it will
remain a
significant cause for concern.

win the White House. Gene would have ended the Vietnam War promptly

1969. Gene McCarthy was a good personal friend of Israeli Prime
Minister Golda Meir. He was a friend of Israel. Gene would probably
have been re-elected in 1972. There probably would NOT have been an
arab surprise attack on Israel on October 6th, 1973 with Gene
McCarthy
in the White House and the US NOT tied down in Indochina. In our view
ARAFAT ordered the assassinations of BOTH BOBBY KENNEDY
AND DR.
MARTIN
LUTHER KING. The cost to the African-American community of the
death
of the most Gandhian leader it ever had is incalculable in terms of
wasted human lives. Dr. King was also a friend to the Jewish
community. Imagine a world in which there never had been a split
between the Jewish community and the African American community.
Instead of Jesse Jackson assuming the mantle of the slain Dr. King,
and going on to lead the charge against the Jewish community after
Jimmy Carter fired Andy Young for shaking hands with an arafat
observer at the UN, and going on to make his infamous Hymietown
remark, Martin Luther King would have led the African-American
community. ( Jackson allegedly got $5 million dollars for his
OPERATION PUSH from Iraq and allegedly got another $5 million
Dollars from Libya)..We think it is well past time for charitable
expressions to
be used about the likes of people like Andrew Young, who "allegedly"
received
$100,000 from BCCI. Young's boss,Jimmy Carter, the most anti-Israel
President of
the United States in history "allegedly" received $10,000,000,
that's right TEN
MILLION DOLLARS from BCCI for the Carter Presidential Library. Their
pal Jesse
Jackson "allegedly" received $5 million dollars from Saddam Hussein
and another
$5 million dollars from Libya for his "OPERATION PUSH" organization.
Now Andrew
Young has had what could be charitably described as a "Mel Gibson
Moment". Such
anti-Semitic "moments", like Jesse Jackson's infamous anti-
Semitic "Welcome To
Hymietown" remarks should never be forgiven or forgotten by anyone.
They are the
same sort of stuff The Holocaust was made from. Those who make such
despicable
remarks deserve to be shunned and censured by the civilized world
now and
forever.
Moreover it was Andrew Young's firing from his UN Post by Jimmy
Carter that set
the stage for Jesse Jackson to wage an unrelenting campaign against
Israel and
the Jewish people which sought to create a wedge between the Jewish
community
and the African-American community. It could not have been more
damaging to both
communities and to civilization in general if it had been planned
out in detail
in advance. What do you think? Was the infamous "handshake" between
Andrew Young
and a so-called "PLO" observer at the UN, and Carter's subsequent
firing of
Young for so-doing, staged and rehearsed well in advance so that
Jackson could
go on his anti-Semitic campaign?


Young will not step down

ATLANTA - The Democratic gubernatorial campaign of Lt. Gov. Mark
Taylor said
Friday there were no plans for its co-chairman Andrew Young to step
down,
despite remarks he made about Jews, Koreans and Arabs in an
interview.

Young said Friday he was stepping down from his job providing public
relations
help for Wal-Mart Stores Inc. The move came amid criticism for
remarks published
Thursday in the weekly Los Angeles Sentinel, which asked Young
whether he was
concerned that Wal-Mart causes smaller, mom-and-pop stores to close.

"Well, I think they should; they ran the "mom and pop' stores out of
my
neighborhood," the paper quoted Young as saying.

"But you see, those are the people who have been overcharging us,
selling us
stale bread and bad meat and wilted vegetables. And they sold out
and moved to
Florida. I think they've ripped off our communities enough. First,
it was Jews,
then it was Koreans and now it's Arabs; very few black people own
these stores."

A spokesman for Republican Gov. Sonny Perdue, who is running for re-
election,
said the remarks wouldn't be tolerated in his campaign.

Young was one of Taylor's most visible supporters during his primary
battle."

disclosure of the Clinton Library's funders, calling
it "outrageous." Said the editorial,"the presidential libraries,

Former president Jimmy Carter, who has recently emerged as one of
the Jewish state's most vocal critics for its current West Bank anti-
terror policy, has been the recipient of tens of millions of dollars
from Arab sources.
Recently, for example, Carter suggested that the U.S. government
should threaten Israel with the possible loss of U.S. aid if it
continues its military offensive in the West Bank.
He also said the U.S. should demand that U.S.-supplied weapons be
used only for defensive purposes.
Mr. Carter's views are often aired by the American media as those of
a neutral mediator-the man who engineered the 1979 Camp David
Accords that has given Israel and Egypt a cold peace in the decades
since.
But far from being neutral, Carter has a track record as a long-time
critic of Israel who has often displayed pro-Arab sympathies.
It was his Carter Center that joined with the National Democratic
Institute to put the seal of legitimacy on the first elections ever
held by Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank in January
1996. Voters, who turned out in droves, elected Yasser Arafat
president, and he has been in power ever since.
In 1990 Carter ghostwrote a speech for Arafat, hoping to polish the
Palestinian leader's tarnished image as, at best, being soft on
terrorism. Arafat won the Nobel Peace prize for the Oslo Accords.
In 1989 President Carter interceded with Israeli Defense Minister
Yitzhak Rabin on behalf of activist Terry Boullata, a field worker
for the Palestinian Human Rights Information Center. Boullata had
been imprisoned in November 1987 for allegedly belonging to a
terrorist organization called the Democratic Front for the
Liberation of Palestine. Boullata was allowed out in 1989 to come to
the United States for treatment of hepatitis.
The Carter Center: Follow the Money
But it's the financing behind Georgia's Carter Center and the Jimmy
Carter Library that raises serious doubts that the former president
is, in actuality, a wholly neutral intermediary in the troubled
region.
NewsMax has reviewed annual reports that indicate millions of
charitable dollars have flowed into the center from His Majesty
Sultan Qaboss bin Said Al Said of Oman, Jordan, from the Kingdom of
Saudi Arabia, and from the Government of the United Arab Emirates.
Furthermore, hundreds of thousands of dollars have been donated to
the center by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development. H.R.H.
Prince Moulay Hicham Ben Abdallah of Morocco has also contributed
tens of thousands of dollars.
There are no corresponding contributions apparent from Israeli
sources, however.
As the center's literature describes, "The Carter Center and the
Jimmy Carter Library were built in large measure thanks to the early
leadership and financial support of the Carter Center founders."
Three of those generous founders:
Agha Hasan Abedi
On July 5 1991, banking regulators targeted Abedi's Bank of Credit
and Commerce International (BCCI), triggering a worldwide financial
tidal wave. To date, accountants and lawyers have managed to recoup
(discounting fees) $7 billion out of the $12 billion money pit that
fueled the BCCI fraud.
Agha Hasan Abedi, a banker and self-styled mystic on first-name
terms with Carter, created BCCI in 1972. Abedi had charmed seed
money out of Arab sheikhs, organizing camel races and hunting trips.
The Bank of America bought into BCCI as a way of buying access to
the Middle East, holding a 30 percent stake at one point before
dumping its holdings in the late-1970s.
His Majesty King Fahd of Saudi Arabia
Last month Saudi Arabia transferred $15.4 million in advance aid to
the Palestinian Authority. The transfer was made to a controversial
Arab League fund, a product of the recent Arab summit in Beirut.
According to Arab spokesmen, the money was hurriedly contributed due
to the dire plight of the Palestinian people as a result of "vicious
Israeli aggression."
King Fahd, Crown Prince Abdullah and Defense Minister Prince Sultan
jointly donated $4.8 million to launch the fund pot, while Interior
Minister Prince Nayef bin Abdul Aziz sent an estimated $800,000 to
the families of "155 Palestinian martyrs" killed in the current
Israeli offensive.
Hasib J. Sabbagh
Sabbagh is the chairman of Consolidated Contractors Co. of Oman,
Jordan. He is also the Senior Fellow for the Middle East of the
Council on Foreign Relations. Founded in 1921, the Council on
Foreign Relations is a membership organization contributing ideas to
U.S. foreign policy. The Council publishes Foreign Affairs, a
leading journal on global issues.
Individual, foundation, and corporate donors, together with
multilateral development assistance programs, support the Carter
Center's current annual operating budget of around $30 million.
Among the center's announced priorities: promoting democracy, global
development, human rights and conflict resolution.
Carter said he has spent much time raising money, but he hopes that
a campaign to raise a $150 million endowment will lighten the load....
the center's executive director for operations, said an estimated
$110 million has already been raised for the endowment.
U.S. Leverage Over Israel
Carter also said that U.S. aid of $10 million a day should give the
U.S. some leverage over Israeli policy..."

Manuel Noriega, for whom it managed some $23 million of criminal
proceeds out of its London branches; Pablo Escobar, of the Medellin
cartel; Rodriguez Gacha, of the Medellin cartel; and several members
of the Ochoa family.

Moving the money...
In the welter of events following the bombing of the World Trade
Center in Feb. 26, 1993, few noticed that the first man arrested,
Mohammed Salameh-the poor, unemployed illegal immigrant-
offered $5 million for bail. Where could he get this kind of money?
The judge refused bail. But was the source of Salameh's offer the
same as the one that funded the eight men-arrested shortly
afterward-who planned to blow up Manhattan's tunnels and bridges
and to assassinate public officials?
Were the same money sources behind the final attack on the World
Trade Center on Sept. 11?
.... For a long time, there has been evidence that terrorist,
international drug trafficking and criminal organizations use the
same fund-raising methods to enrich themselves.
Yet no one seemed to connect the dots. And no one seriously tried to
crack down on their financing.
....According to a State Department report, the Taliban, who are at bin
Laden's service, has the advantage of controlling the world's
largest heroin production and distribution in the world.
Since the Taliban took over Afghanistan, the heroin production
soared to hundreds of tons each year. In 1999 alone, the world
production of heroin was estimated at 500 metric tons; 400 were
produced by the Taliban and available to fund bin Laden and his
associates worldwide. First warning
The writing was on the wall on July 5, 1991, when the Bank of
England shut down what was the most important Islamic bank in the
world, the Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI). This
criminal entity was created by the Pakistani Aaga Hassan Abedi "to
fight the evil influence of the West"; to help with the creation of
the "Islamic Bomb"; to finance all Muslim terrorist organizations;
and to launder the money that was generated mostly by illicit drug
trafficking and other illegal activities, including arms
trafficking.
When BCCI went belly up, we learned from thousands of documents that
Abu Nidal-the notorious Palestinian terrorist organization that
now enjoys the hospitality of Iraq's Saddam Hussein, the Palestine
Liberation Organization (PLO), Hezbollah and bin Laden-had
accounts in the bank. By the end of the 1980s, the "special
services" provided by BCCI included access to Western humanitarian
and international development funds, as well as drug money
laundering, secret transfers of cash and bribes.
A "Black Network," a special enforcement unit supported by Abu Nidal
and other terrorist organizations, operated from Pakistan. The same
Pakistan that harbored bin Laden for many years while its officials
told the United States that they didn't know his whereabouts. And
the same Pakistan that for decades, even according to the State
Department's annual report, had been a major drug trafficking and
money laundering center.
Western blindness
Yet, now more importantly, we also discovered that the American and
British governments knew and kept the bank open for a long time. The
bank "that would bribe God" was able to get away with its criminal
activities for decades due to Abedi's clever portrayal of the Muslim
nations as victims of Western-and particularly U.S.-
"imperialism." And when the bank was shuttered, the accusation in
the Muslim/Arab and Third World countries was that the U.S. and the
United Kingdom governments closed the bank to curtail the growing
fiscal power of Muslim countries.
Like Abedi, anti-American, anti-Western terrorist and radical Muslim
states and organizations, such as the Taliban, Al Qaeda, Hamas,
Hezbollah, the PLO, Iraq and Iran, use Western democratic rhetoric
to their advantage. But it is the willful blindness, mainly toward
the growing volume of drug money laundering, exercised by Western
bankers on the one hand and Western politicians on the other, that
makes money laundering possible, despite the many laws and
international conventions to control this phenomenon.
The BCCI was the first warning to the West. The second warning about
the abuse of European and American financial markets by terrorist
organizations, as well as their involvement in the illicit arms and
drug trade, was made in February 1994 by the British National
Criminal Intelligence Service (NCIS).
The Organized Crime Unit of the NCIS warned that Middle East
terrorist groups and states were targeting the financial centers of
London, Frankfurt and other Western countries, and that they favor
illegal drug trafficking, money laundering and fraud....
Clinton appeasement
Despite its stated policy of not negotiating with terrorists, the
Clinton administration went out of its way to appease a few of the
20th century's most notorious terror groups: the Revolutionary Armed
Forces of Colombia (FARC), the PLO and the Irish Republican Army.
All are heavily involved in the drug trade.
On the eve of the 1993 handshake on the White House lawn between
Israeli Prime Minister Yitzak Rabin and PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat,
Britain's National Criminal Intelligence Service estimated the PLO's
ill-gotten gains to total between $8 billion to $10 billion, with an
annual income of about $1.5 billion to $2 billion from "donations,
extortion, payoffs, illegal arms dealing, drug trafficking, money
laundering, fraud, etc."
Since then, Washington has only aided and abetted the PLO. Since the
start of the Oslo process, Arafat has received at least $3 billion
more from the United States and the international community, without
any serious demand for accountability, according to a report this
year to Congress. Arafat, in well-documented instances, has been
systematically skimming off portions of these funds, as he has with
monies given to him on behalf of the refugees in the camps.
The PLO was in the drug trafficking business almost from the
beginning. Operating from Lebanon, under Habash's able leadership
and assisted by a PLO-owned shipping company SUMUD, the organization
exported hashish, opium, heroin and cocaine, first to Europe and
later even to the United States and Australia. In return, it
obtained weapons for their war against Israel and the West, and
amassed a massive treasure trove. In addition, the PLO and Arafat,
who enjoy the financial and strategic support of Hussein and bin
Laden, have the distinction of being the organization that
promoted "suicide bombers" as a weapon.
Yet the Clinton administration subsidized a multitude of radical
Palestinian groups, ranging from Arafat's Fatah branch of the PLO
and its military wing, the Tanzim, to the socialist-nationalist
Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), headed by
George Habash, all with close ties to bin Laden, Iraq and Iran.
....It was the Clinton White House that, despite evidence to the
contrary, removed Syria from its list of the drug trafficking
countries
