@i39g2000cwa.googlegroups.com:

The Navy has finished converting one of it's Ohio class subs over to
cruise missile platforms. The Trident subs will carry up to 154
conventional armed cruise missiles. This a important to step for force
projection. Countries like N Korea and China have very large army so
projecting conventional force is very important for the US. These
Trident subs will make their leaders think thrice before conducting
any
hostile action. One can just imagine if the US hinted that there was 2
or 3 of these subs of the coast of N Korea.

Ah, yes, "our superior weaponry will beat
pesky asian commies", which worked sooo well
in Vietnam..........

The US won every battle in Vietnam of any consequence yet the ultimate
consequence was still to lose the war.

There was an exchange recently between a N. Vietnamese
general and a US general, who ask why the commies didn't
win any battle. "We weren't trying to win battles, we
were trying to win the war" was the response.

Yea, right. That's the sort of after the fact twisting of events that
you'd expect from the side that lost the war.

As Vietnam went, so goes Iraq.

No, not the same situation at all. Of course the US could just leave
Iraq and then you'd get your way, wouldn't you? So you are hoping for a
loss in Iraq?

Don't be obtuse. It is exactly the same situation: a segment of the
population disputes who "owns" the ground.

But the US isn't trying to "own" Iraq. And the insurgents in Iraq are
not getting vast quantities of military aid from outside, are not a
nation state with safe havens. There is no North Iraq vs a South Iraq
with the US on one side. The US stands with the Kurds and with the Sunni
Arabs and with the Shia Arabs against the radical Islamists. This is the
battle that America had to take on due to the antecedents to 9/11 and
9/11 itself.

The US can win every battle
until we decide one more death and one more dollar isn't worth "owning"
the ground one day longer. That's what happened in Vietnam, that's how
Iraq will end.

The US certainly has the capacity to run away from Iraq and the fight
against the Islamists. But it doesn't have to do that. Certainly there
are people in the US who want to make the effort into Vietnam because
they won the last time they did that, in Vietnam.

So, are you hoping all Iraqis will die so we can win in Iraq?

That's an insane question. I don't hope that anyone dies, except perhaps
bin Laden and his boys, and I'd be just as happy with them in prison.

If you're not driving a fuel truck in Iraq, then you must want the US
to lose. See how easy it is to determine just who's anti-America.

What does driving a fuel truck in Iraq have to do with anything?
