He damn sure was.
Communism does not work in any group of people. Period.
Well, it kinda works after a fashion. It kinda worked in Russia
from 1917 to 1989, and it's still working, after a fashion, in
Cuba. So it's not entirely true to say it does not work. It's
more correct to say it doesn't work well and, to the best evidence
we've got available, may be unsustainable beyond three generations.
But in the 1950s and 1960s it really seemed to be working well, in
that it was strong enough to produce a very credible threat to the
West that remained credible through the 1970s.
Once you suppress the democracy, you are going to get a disfunctional
system. Keep in mind that communism was supposed to be a form of socialism
therefore being based on common ownership of production means.
However, once democracy was removed, ALL communist regimes immediately
degenerated in a neo-feudalism. The oligarchy used the lack of democracy to
hijack the ownership of everything and used the coercion to keep the rest
of the population as serfs.
From a supposed extreme left, communism become a truly extreme right
society. And this in mater of months. Always.
I agree. This is what makes Communism unstable. If there was a
system of checks and balances in government, and the government
was answerable to the people, I don't see why a Communist economy
would necessarily be unstable.
This is a very strong lesson to be learned: Regardless of the regime,
regardless of the ideology, the democratic controll of power must be fully
maintained. Any ideology/party/doctrina opposing to democracy are obviously
either mentally insane idiots either tyrants.
Canada is a mixed economy like the US. When I talk about socialism I
understand it to mean that the state controls the commanding heights
of the economy. This includes natural resources, all production,
distribution and allocation. All aspects of the economy is controlled
by the state. The mere fact that some aspects of the social support
system are under state control doesn't make the state socialist.
Correct. A socialist state require common ownership of all the
production means. I.E. no private (capitalist) businesses.
Or very little.
In modern days, many use the term to anything involving a decent safety net.
This is ridiculous and just highlight the fanatic behavior of this kind of
individual. Mainly the libertarians and neoconservatives use to call
socialism everything it is left of extreme right.
It's a straw man. It's much easier to show that Communism is
nonsense and anti-freedom than to show the same regarding
tax-funded social programs in a market-based economic system.
A society having a mixed environment of state owned public services and
private (capitalist) businesses it is a social democracy.
The US can barely be considered a true democracy at this point in"When America sneezes the world catches cold." America was never a
history. I don't know how they are going to manage to regain control
of their country other than a deep recession to wake the citizens up.
Democracy but a representative republic.
We can consider it a democracy by extending the sense to a democratic
controll of the political power.
Like Communism, Democracy only works in very small groups.
I do not believe communism can work in any group due to the suppression of
democracy.
Does Communism require the suppression of democratic government?
I don't see why.
Democracy can however work in large groups without a problem.
Can you explain why do you believe such a thing ?
