By choosing Immigration as the pivotal issue for 2006, the Republican
Party has assured a sharp division amongst their own constituents. It
appears the Republicans have blindly assumed that all their voters are
of one mind on the immigration issue, which is certainly not the case.
Even "the Christian Right" is divided on this, with many church leaders
going on record in opposition to the GOP policies.
