Al Sharqiyah TV:
An explosive charge targeting an Italian military convoy in the
city of Nasiriyah, southern Iraq, has wounded two civilians.
Police sources said that the incident took place in the western
part of the city on the road leading to Basra Governorate,
adding that the convoy was unharmed.
Lt-Gen Dahham Radi al-Asal, adviser to the Iraqi defence
minister, has escaped an assassination attempt when an explosive
charge went off targeting his motorcade in east Baghdad today. A
source at the Iraqi Defence Ministry said that an explosive
charge went off while the motorcade of Lt-Gen Dahham was passing
by in Al-Rubay'i Street in the Al-Zayyunah area in east Baghdad,
leading to the martyrdom of five of his body guards and wounding
seven others.
Muwaffaq al-Rubay'i, national security adviser, today announced
the arrest of 10 people he described as being involved in the
bombing of the shrine of the two imams in Samarra last
Wednesday... Al-Rubay'i said that the detainees were four of the
shrine's guards and six others he did not identify. He added
that the preliminary investigations uncovered two leads
confirming that Al-Qa'idah Organization in Iraq, led by
Jordanian fugitive Abu-Mus'ab al-Zarqawi, was responsible for
the bombing.

War, at first, is the hope that one will
be better off; next, the expectation that
the other fellow will be worse off; then,
the satisfaction that he isn't any better
off; and, finally, the surprise at everyone's
being worse off. -Karl Kraus
