There is, unfortunately, a basic difference between what GWB2 is doing
now and what Messrs. Carter and Brezinski were doing then. And that
is: /they/ were not attempting to conquer the region and seize the oil
for themselves. But this _is_ what Mr. Bush is doing.
Seize the oil. Use the military power of the United States to conquer
the entire region, restore "Pax Brittanica" as "Pax Americana," and
operate the countries in question under compliant vassal-governments.
It sounds oh, so good on Texas paper.
Messrs. C & B also were not in the arms business. Virtually all of the
senior executives in the Executive Branch are officers of companies who
are personally profiting from various aspects of the war operations, to
the tune of billions of dollars each month... and/or who are reaping
"windfall profits" from the spiraling price of gasoline on the American
market. (All of these connections are readily verifiable facts --
don't take my word for it... simply use the Internet for what it is
best at.)
Blinded by their own greed, as insanely-wealthy men so often are, they
cannot see the harm they do .. or simply do not care. Like Marie
Antoinette, they cannot conceive of a table without breads and cakes.
They cannot imagine that children might not be able to go to school
because the farmers in their county need the fuel. Inflicted with
"Tantalus' Curse," their mouths are always rapaciously dry for More...
More... More Money. More... More... More Money.
Ahh, but "the best-laid plans of mice and men." Even when a country
like Iraq is deeply divided by ancient rivalries that have been going
on for thousands of years, when any country is invaded by an outsider
that outsider can quickly become their common enemy. And the United
States of America has become just that.
Slowly, slowly, the blinders are finally falling off the eyes of
Americans and members of the World community alike. The scope and
extent of the conflict of interest, the cronyism, and the rampant
corruption that permeate all three Branches of the present United
States government are becoming coldly clear. So, too, are the enormous
dangers that the world, as a whole faces, from these actions. Were
this fifty years ago, it would have inevitably become World War Three.
But this is not fifty years ago. The governments of Europe have joined
into a non-military economic union that has the power to equal the
United States, which has meanwhile become an impoverished
debtor-nation. Other governments to the South and to the West will
soon form similar Unions, for similar reasons. And they will use their
collective powers to stare-down and to stand-down a warmongering United
States, and to do so /without/ igniting global warfare.
But the citizens of the United States itself should take the lead.
This is, after all, their mess.
Working entirely within the laws of the lands, and of the world
community, these reckless abuses of executive power for said
executive's private-business gains must be stopped. And they must be
stopped now. Slowly, slowly, this fact is becoming accepted. The
problem is not "America as a country," but rather the wretched designs
of evil men who sought to use their positions of ultimate power for
their own, personal, ultimate gain. "America as a country" must now
expel those leaders from those positions in its own ranks, then set
about the business of cleaning up a monumental error.
