"After the Second World War, shortly before the United Nations
partition of Palestine into separate Jewish and non-Jewish areas, Jews
still made up less than one-third of the population of Palestine. The
1946 British census counted 608,000 Jews out of a total population of
1,845,000. The great majority of these Jews were recent immigrants,
whereas nearly all of the Arabs were natives who had roots in
Palestine going back many generations.<
So what? The League of Nations stated that the Jews had "an historic
connexion:" to Palestine, and gave them the right to return and
settle. It didn't matter how many, or how few, non-Jews lived in
Palestine, nor how long they were there for.
What the Jews had that the
Palestinians didn't have, however, was a very substantial degree of
control of the governments of the United States and the United
Kingdom, and these two countries exerted a decisive influence on the
policies of the United Nations.<
The Arabs had NOTHING until the British defeated the Ottoman empire,
and allowed the ARabs to eventually create 21 mostly crappy Arab
states out of it. For 400 years the Turks ruled over them, and they
did not free themselves. The League of Nations chose to give Palestine
to the Jews. WHy not?
The result of this influence was the
partition of Palestine in 1948 into separate Jewish and non-Jewish
areas, with the one-third of the population that was Jewish being
awarded two-thirds of the land, including the most valuable areas.
The Jews immediately set about ethnically cleansing their areas,
carrying out a number of horrifying massacres of non-Jewish
Palestinians and terrorizing tens of thousands of others into fleeing
from their homes, which immediately were seized and occupied by the
Jews. In a series of wars since 1948,<
In the Partition Plan, about 52 % of Mandatory Palestine was offered
as a state for the Jews, and 48% for the Palestinian Arabs. But most
of the land given to the Jews was in the Negev and almost totally
barren desert. So the actually liveable land given to the Jews was
actually less than alloted to the Arabs. But then, the League of
Nations in 1922 also gave Eastern Palestine to the Arabs and called it
Transjordan. So much of historical Israel was already lost to Jewish
settlement as early as 1922. But all the land west of the Jordan was
to be open to Jewish settlement. But the Arabs violently resisted and
in the end they were offered about 48% of Western Palestine for yet
another Arab state, as if 21 weren't already enough for them. But the
Arabs refused to allow the Jews to have any state of their own, and
attacked Israel even before it declared its independence, and this
caused two refugee problems: The Arab one from Palestine, and the
JEwish one from the Arab and Muslim countries.
the Jews, backed by the United
States, seized even more Palestinian land. <
The US had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with any of it. The
Arabs made wars, and the Jews defeated them time and time again. The
Arabs can't face the fact that they have been beaten numerous times by
the tiny Jewish state and so they blame the US as being the reason for
Jewish success in defeating them. For a long time the USSR backed most
of the Arab states and sold them plenty of arms.
Even today, the US sells the Arabs almost 3 times as much arms as it
gives or sells to Israel.
The Palestinians who were
driven from their land-the real Palestinians, whose parents and
grandparents and great-grandparents had owned the land-were forced
into crowded and dirty refugee camps, where they still live.<
THat's the fault of the Arabs, not Israel. Tiny Israel, hardly the
size of New Jersey absorbed over 2 million Jews, including 650,000
from the Arab countries, and yet 21 huge Arab oil rich states refused
to absorb 750,000 of their "brothers," and put them in camps instead
of making them citizens.
And
whenever one of these dispossessed Palestinians strikes back at the
Jews who stole his country from him, everyone in the Bush government,
from the chief liar on down, and everyone in the controlled media here
denounces the Palestinian as a "terrorist"-and all of the Sally
Soccermoms and Joe Sixpacks nod in agreement.A<
They lost fair and square and should accept defeat and a smaller state
that Israel is prepared to offer them for a while now. But they choose
violence every time over compromise, and this has been the pattern
since 1921, which is why they ended up outside. Germany and Japan
accepted defeat, and yet the Palestinians think they are so correct
and mighty that they cannot do what Germany and Japan did, and accept
defeat and become peaceful friends of Israel. Instead, they choose to
continue the blooshed from generation to generation. So be it. The
ball is in their court. If they want peace they can have it. If they
want war, they can get plenty of that too. Israel is not going to sue
for peace as it is the victor, not the vanquished. if you think you
can vanquish Israel and keep repeating the same mistake over and over
and over again, so be it. That will only mean less and less and less
for you in the long run.
