You must mean it was worse than Pearl Harbor. Was it worse than the the
Iraqi attack on the USS Stark in May 1987? The Stark attack cost 37
American lives but nobody cares about that.

Fair enough the attack on theUSS Libertyhas indeed been blown out of all
proportion, but then the death of westerners always is.

They got several investigations. The problem is that the investigations
all showed that Israel's attack was done in error, not with the intent of
attacking a US vessel.

a small group of former crewmembers got the ear of Congressman
Nicholas Mavroules, chairman of the House Armed Services Subcommittee
on Investigations thanks to the efforts of Chief of Staff to President
Bush (the first one), John Sununu ...

Guess what, the material these guys provided apparently didn't pass
muster -- not surprsing given the faulty premise stated to start with.

and lets face it since when were such
politically sensitive investigations not nobbled.

Or more likely, the later year stories simply don't withstand the
light of fact-checking.

Nah, you're lying, not wondering. We should recognize that the wholeUSS> Libertyaffair is mentioned just to give anti-semites a chance to insult
Israel and Jews. At this point, trash will join with remarks along the
following lines:

The uncomfortable truth is that if the attack on theUSS Libertywas
deliberate, and there really is a lot of evidence to suggest it could have
been, then US military intelligence was complicit in it. So in truth there
is as much reason for those who are interested in the Liberty incident to
turn on people like Macnamara as Israel.

But in reality no one is turniong on anyone and this year despite some
feeble attempts it's passing as the previous ones, and it most likely
will be the same next year. The series of myths and tall tales by
which the above premise is generated simply shows it has no legs in
the real world of today.
