Analyzing The Current Middle-East Situation

Whether or not you agree with Bush, the fact remains that he believes
we're fighting a world-wide war on terror. America is now currently
engaged with conflicts in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Yet other trouble
spots have emerged to wreak havoc in their own ways.
Though we are still quite capable of launching a devastating air attack
to any location on earth, most experts agree that yet another ground war
at present would tax our forces to a considerable extent {thanks in
large part to Clinton's eight years at the helm, during which he
seriously undermined all that Reagan had accomplished with the two
trillion dollars he spent on defense}.
Further complicating matters is the fact that this is a mid-term
election year. Republicans have their share of bad points {a fact which
"Lefty" can never admit about their own party} ... yet the one area
wherein poll after poll has shown they hold the strongest lead is in
protecting us from terrorism. No small wonder. Republicans have always
been much better at fighting wars than their Democratic counterparts.
Due to both political and military concerns, Washington won't risk
getting us involved with still more fighting in foreign lands, short of
someone hitting us with another 9-11 type attack. Yet the election is
still four months distant, and too many things are happening too quickly
on the world scene. Lately, the public has been more concerned with
issues such as the high price of gasoline than they are with this
lengthy war on terror. Republican politicians are feeling the heat,
worried that people will hold them accountable for things that no
politician can control, like the market price of oil.
Nothing could suit Republicans better between now and election time,
than having everyone's attention re-focused on the global terror war...
and that is precisely what's happening now, thanks to the quickly
escalating conflict between Israel and her hostile neighbors. The entire
region is on the brink of an all-out major war. Syria and Iran are both
ultimately responsible for these attacks against Israel, not to mention
fuelling the insurgency against our troops in Iraq.
North Korea has a handful of atomic weapons, thereby posing a problem,
yes ... but not an immediate one. At least not one to mainland America.
Yet even though Syria and Iran both lack nuclear bombs for the moment,
they are still of much more concern than anyone else today. Korea does
not control the world's oil supply. The middle-east does. And it's a
region on the brink, with Syria and Iran doing their best to cause
trouble, while the latter desperately races towards joining the nuclear
club.
So let us now analyze the whole she-bang ...
We're fighting a global war on terror. Iraq and Afghanistan have been
removed from the list of states which support terror {this doesn't mean
they are free of terrorists, only that they can no longer sanction
terror in a national capacity}. Iran and Syria have now risen to the
forefront of states which do adamantly sponsor terrorism.
An American mid-term election approaches. Republicans would benefit by
having everyone's attention re-focused on maters of terrorism ... the
area in which Republicans have always scored their highest marks in
public opinion polls. America's biggest oil provider -- that being the
entire Middle East -- is on the verge of an all-out war. Israel shows no
signs of placating their enemies {good for them!}. Iran is steadfast in
pursuing The Bomb. This is something which cannot be allowed under any
circumstances whatsoever.
So what if Israel's current military action was a calculated attempt at
drawing America into a growing regional conflict? What purpose could
such a devious {and if true, downright brilliant} plan possibly serve?
First, it would be the next major step in our war against terrorism ...
a concern Israel most definitely shares. Next, pitting America against
Iran would ensure that Iran's nuclear aspirations are set back by at
least ten years. We may not be ready for another ground war, at present,
yet America can still inflict great harm on her enemies world-wide
through missile and air strikes alone.
Also, Israel very well understands what is at stake with our mid-term
election. They know that Liberals are peacenik pacificists. They know
that Bush would greatly benefit by keeping Republicans in control of
Washington. They know he still has two-and-a-half more years in which to
conduct the terror war his way. Israel knows that the Democrats would
surely remain far too focused on the impotent United Nations. They know
that Republicans are the best ally they can ever hope to have.
As an alternative to this being something that Israel has conceived on
her own, it's also possible that the Bush administration created this
plan all by themselves. By having Israel launch an attack that will
rapidly grow in both scope and violence, Republicans know that they will
benefit in a number of ways ... such as by broadening the war on terror
while they still have a chance ... and by keeping terrorism on
everyone's mind during the coming election.
A simple conspiracy theory? Perhaps. Yet then again, can anyone say that
such scenarios are utterly impossible? Whether part of someone's grand
scheme or not, the war on terror is about to reach its next level of
intensity.
