I have long ago accepted Israel as a state -- *as drawn-up
by the UN*... I've even accept the addition of the land
inside the green-line. Israel was after all attacked, and
although they did much to make matter worse (like killing
a UN-negotiator), that land is fairly won. That is however
*not* the case with Gaza and the West-Bank (as the UN has
confirmed).
Israel withdraws from Gaza to consolidate in the West Bank.
Some -- like President Bush -- feel the West Bank would be
a proper award for Israel's commitment towards peace by
withdrawing settlers from Gaza. I disagree.
Less than 10% of the total numbers of settlers are being
withdrawn, and at the same time, houses for 1000 new
settlers are being buildt on the West Bank. Israel is
just making a big deal out of withdrawing a token number
of settlers from an area they'd started to loose control
over.
Further more, why are they being awarded? For illegally
(according to the UN) attacking and occupying an area?
For illegally setting up settlements? For their many
human-rights violations? For *finally* _partly_ *follow*
a UN-resolution and stop stonewalling after 30+ years?
I seriously doubt letting someone keep parts of what they've
*illegally aquired* if they have the guts to refusing to
comply with the UN and other International-organizations
for a few decades, is the right way to go... Doesn't seem
like much of deterrent to me... If Iran manage to keep the
inspectors out for 20 years, should they then be allowed to
keep their nukes?
The Jewish people for one should understand this... how
much suffering hadn't they been spared if the world had
intervined when Hitler invaded Poland and killed the little
prick? Instead, they just sat back and hoped he would
eventually calm down. The world has certainly waited long
enough for Israel to calm down and comply... now wonder
the Palestinians have stopped just waiting around.
