Hundreds of Dr. Janet Despot’s patients who may have been overcharged
a total of $100,000 or more as part of an elaborate billing-fraud
scheme by her Cardinal Respiratory medical practice will have a chance
to be repaid.
U.S. District Court Judge Jeanne Scott recently hired the Springfield
accounting firm of Eck, Schafer and Punke and a local health-care
consulting company, The Curtis Group Inc., to act as a “receiver” in
the case.
“The primary goal here is to make sure the victims are made whole,”
said Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Hansen, who is spearheading the
prosecution.
The accounting firm and The Curtis Group together will be paid about
$50,000, and perhaps more, to find patients that may have been
defrauded by Cardinal Respiratory between 1997 and March 2007.|
