illegal billing practice

Springfield Illinois doctor pleads guilty to illegal billing practice
A Springfield specialist pleaded guilty in federal court Thursday to
violating patient billing procedures while acting as a Medicare
provider.
Dr. Janet Despot, sole owner of Cardinal Respiratory, P.C., in
Springfield IL also agreed to pursue a negotiated plea to one count
health care fraud filed against the corporation, according to the
United States Attorney's Office. The plea would stipulate that she
will set up a $2,549,986 fund to pay fines, restitution and
forfeiture.


$2.5 million fund to pay fines and compensate for victims connected
with the billing abuse alleged by federal prosecutors.

The fund is mentioned in a proposed plea bargain that would settle the
single federal misdemeanor charge against her in the investigation
