I was reading an abstract from a European journal. It was about prostate
cancer and whether or not insurance status affected the diagnosis/outcome
of the disease. It was very surprising to me, because the Euro system is
touted as truly universal access. I recall that some countries have
"supplemental" insurance, but I'm not real clear on the details. Anyway,
here is a snippet of the findings from Gallina et al, Eur Urol Suppl 2007;
6:(2):181:

Serum PSA, clinical stage, gleason grade, extracapsular extension on final
path, seminal vesicle invasion (a particularly ominous sign) were all
statistically BETTER in the privately insured group vs. public insured
group. Differences held after multivariate analysis. More importantly,
the privately insured group had a lower rate of biochemical recurrence
(the current surrogate marker for survival with prostate cancer).
