My father certainly hung on long enough. Of his 3 heart arteries, 2
were blocked and one partially blocked, but an examination a year
before he died showed that his heart had been growing new veins to try
to overcome this. This was a man who definitely wanted to live,
probably because he adored his young granddaughter (and she him).

What I really wanted to know is what people physically feel and how
they suddenly know that death isn't far away. Are there any web sites
that document this, and any lucid people who described how they
thought they knew themselves to be dying and clearly described their
sensations? Probably only a calm and clear-sighted, medically trained
or scientifically-inclined person could have done this. It's a
mysterious thing to me, knowing suddenly that you're in death's
waiting-room. Three other relatives of mine maintained they were dying
before they actually did unexpectedly die. I suppose there must be
very few people who feel and maintain this and then don't.
