I can't speak in depth for NY or CA, but MA already does. It's just not
called that. It's called freecare. Essentially no one in MA goes without
insurance. It's been that way for years.
The uninsured number is artificially inflated. I think all children should
be covered completely for a host of reasons. That 60 million gets smaller
without them. Take away all the people who ELECT not to have insurance due
to stupidity and it's smaller still. There are a lot of things that need to
be done, but one of the first steps is a mandatory health insurance. Just
like mandatory car insurance.
