You make a good point, AB. Do you suggest that the owner of the road
erect toll booths to generate the income necessary to patrol it for
tired and drunk drivers?

Or do you support, as Bama Brian does, that action should not bother to
be taken until the drunk driver hits you and you die?

Aaron,

You're putting words in my mouth that I did not say. Do spend some time on "reading for comprehension" skill drills before posting to usenet.

But let's hear your plan - if you have one.

How do you plan to get the drunk/inattentive/medical emergency/etc. driver off the road BEFORE something happens? Arm all the cops with telepathy and precognition?

Do you plan to pull over ALL the cars and check ALL the drivers EVERY day? Will you check them ALL every hour? Will you have doctors examine them ALL for alertness and physical condition?

How about pulling over the obviously bad drivers - those who are weaving back and forth in the road, those who are driving at excessive rates of speed, those who are cutting in and out of traffic - and let's pull their licenses and/or cars.

IOW, let's address what people DO - not what you THINK they MIGHT do.

Driving is serious business. Mistakes in driving can cause serious tragedies. Unfortunately, virtually every municipality in this country treats bad driving as an opportunity to earn revenues from traffic tickets and do not address the safety issues properly.
