Weston Man Commits Suicide at Shooting Range
Law does not require background checks on gun renters, a loophole that
has seen an increase of shooting range suicides.

A 47-year-old Weston man left a suicide note in his car and then
fatally shot himself at the Arizona Shooting Range in Lauderdale
Lakes.
Authorities did not release the man's name, but did confirm details in
the incident Friday morning.
"He shot himself there at the gun range," said Sheriff's office
spokesperson Veda Coleman. "He did leave behind a note."
Employees at the North State Road 7 business declined to speak about
the matter, and a man arriving shortly afterward to shoot said those
few customers already on the scene were stunned.
"The witnesses were kind of quiet, I guess reflective -- like they
couldn't believe what had happened," Cooper City resident David Wilpon
told the Sun-Sentinel. "[Employees] would just say, 'There was an
accident here.'"
Suicides at gun ranges are increasingly common as law does not require
background checks on those who rent guns, only on purchasers. In one
three-month period in 2009, four people committed suicide at gun
ranges in the Orlando area alone -- prompting some Florida ranges to
stop renting guns altogether.

Of course, nowhere in the story does it state that he couldn't buy a
gun because of his background. So what's the "loophole?"
