just how these bizarre attempts at gun control will serve to make us
safer when the total number of firearms in legal possession in this
country in no way tracks with the number of firearms used wrongfully
(i.e., murder, suicide, robbery, rape, and so forth).

I can't speak for the man likely to be your next president, but I
don't
consider gun control to be "bizarre". I believe the total number of
firearms in legal possession in the US is a both a contributor to and
a
reflection of the very high use of such weapons in violent crime.

? ? ? ? I see. But does the actual number of firearms in private
possession track in any way with the number of times they are used in
crime? Especially given the acknowledged social use of firearms,
registering or confiscating them in order to "do something about their
illegal use" is most assuredly bizarre.

Hardly bizarre at all. Do the numerous governments around the world
who just that with the support of the popluace; eg Australia Canada,
Germany, etc also consider what they do as "bizarre"?

I can't speak for them. However, what they may or may not do STILL
does not account for the rather large disparity in this counttry between
the
number of firearms in civilian hands and the number of them used in crime
(with or without violence).

Do you mean that the US has more guns per head of population and more
murders per head of population? If so, you are right.

****answer

Meanwhile Mexico has fewer guns per head of population and even more murders
per head of population.

So what's the point of these rather simplistic comparisons?

Let me guess, more of your irrelevant correlations that you want to mean
something, but they don't.

You'd guess wrong, again. You wrote about "this country", meaning the
USA, which is why is responded quoting US figures. Now you're asking
me about Mexico and querying YOUR OWN simplistic comparison! I NEVER
mentioned Mexico, YOU did. So don't come blubbing to me if you think
the comparison is simplistic.
