LEOs had to go to a local gun shop for more firepower.
That's more than 10 years ago, and the LA bad guys have gotten betterLike when? A scumbag pulls out a so-called assault weapon from his britches and shoots a cop? About the only place where one can carry such a weapon is in the car - and that's what happened in FL, a few months ago when such a scumbag shot a cop dead.
armed since then. Maybe full auto is for exceptional occasions, but
the LEOs do get outgunned on occasion.
And BTW, the scumbag's "assault rifle" won't shoot through the cop's body armor.
most police soft body armor(SBA) is only rated for HANDGUN rounds, not 7.62x39 or .223,and I suspect few if any officers wear a trauma plate. SWAT wears the heavy body armor.
Maybe. But I doubt it. Back in '95, IIRC, there was a cop in San Jose, CA, that reportedly took a .12 gauge blast at pointblank range right in the chest. It broke ribs and caused other internal damage - but the vest was not penetrated and the cop survived.
AFAIK, departments don't buy armor in types I and II anymore - just type IIIA.

I was surprised to read that the N.Hollywood robbers also had trauma plates over their vitals in their HOMEMADE body armor.
the N.Holllywood robbers had an AK-47 in 7.62x39,an AR-15 in .223,and a HK-
41 in .308,all illegally modified for full-auto. They all will penetrate standard LEO SBA.
