You probably heard about the Northridge bank robbery in LA in 1997.
http://www.emergency.com/lapdbank.htm If I recall correctly, the LEOs had
to go to a local gun shop for more firepower.
That's more than 10 years ago, and the LA bad guys have gotten better
armed since then. Maybe full auto is for exceptional occasions, but the
LEOs do get outgunned on occasion.
There's one thing I've always been curious about with regards to that
"shootout."
As long as it lasted, where was the SWAT team? They at least had
high-powered sniper rifles that would have taken those two out.
Maybe it's just an information gap on my part.
