What's a car designed to do?
Move people from one place to another with a modicum of safety.
**Yep.
What's a gun designed to do?
Move a small object from one place to another with great speed,
accuracy
and a modicum of safety.
**Nope. In the vast majority of cases, the projectile is irreparably
damaged, after one use. Automobiles, for the most part, can be
reused many
times.
So the ability to damage to a projectile defines the purpose of a
firearm? Now THAT'S an interesting thought.
**Nope. I explained what happens to a bullet after it leaves the
barrel of a gun. Usually, it is destroyed and is unable to be reused.
OTOH, an automobile after it has completed it's journey, can usually
be reused.
Which really has nothing to do with its intended purpose. The fact that
it can be reused is design parameter on longevity and cost, not a design
parameter on purpose.
More importantly, perhaps, is that automobiles are rarely used as
murder weapons,
But -- even if rare -- they CAN be so used (as one was recently in
San Francisco).
**You'll note that I did not use the term: never. Automobile can and
have been used as a murder weapon. Their use as such, however, is
rare.
As far as we can tell.
whilst guns are overwhelmingly preferred as a murder weapon in the
US.
Wrong.
**Nope. You are wrong. Guns are used as a murder weapon in
approximately 60% of all murders in the US. That makes them the wepaon
of choice for murderers.
Yep. One reason is that they carry out their design parameter very well.
That is to move a small object from one place to another with great speed
and accuracy.
While an individual murder may be carried out more easily
when a firearm is used, to say they are overwhelmingly preferred as
murder weapons (with the rather obvious intent of implying they are
inherently bad
and deserving of heavy regulation) is simply incorrect. Frankly I
expected better of you, Trevor.
**I suggest you get your facts straight. Guns are the preferred weapon
for murderers in the US. Feel free to provide your evidence to suggest
otherwise. Here's my evidence:

The REAL response to the original two questions dealing with the
percieved function of cars vs firearms is: Isn't it passing strange
that a device seen as being benign is responsible for so much more
death, injury, and property damage BY ACCIDENT than is another device
that is seen as being
inherently bad when that device is used ON PURPOSE?
**You can believe what you wish. However, what you fail to take into
account is the following:
You missed his point, Trevor. His point is that you continue to paint
auromobile as this benign item while painting guns as disgusting ones.
Yet, the benign item does, indeed, kill and wound many more people than
guns do.
SNIP........
Opinionated bull*** removed.
